Quotezone Work Out UK’s Most Expensive Wrong Turns on Motorways

Congestion looks likely as school holiday getaway begins this friday, says RAC.

OK, every now and then we like to post a story that’s not really insurance related, but just makes us think `yeah, that is one of the pains of modern life.’ This week Quotezone have supplied some data showing the estimated fuel costs of taking a wrong turn on Britain’s congested motorway network, which is easily done.

Top of the chart is the M26/M25 interchange, which costs drivers a 36 mile detour to correct. This is followed by J10 on the M11, which delays you by 35 miles. We could go on, but at the risk of sounding like Alan Partridge, none of this is as frustrating as navigating the one-way system around Norwich in a Rover 45.

Interestingly, many places in the UK are something of a detour in themselves. For example, it is impossible to drive to Croft race circuit, without taking a huge zig-zag detour at Scotch Corner, through Middleton Tyas and then all round the flipping houses basically.

One top tip we have for drivers is never think you can dodge a traffic jam on the M6/M5 interchange by taking to the local roads. You’ll just end up in the wilds of Cradley Heath or Halesowen, and after driving around for several days, probably give up and open a branch of Papa Johns instead.

Drive safe 😉
