Credit Hire Organisation Makes Two Key Appointments

The Credit Hire Organisation (CHO), the trade body for the UK’s credit hire industry has announced two new senior hires.

Peter Gomes is the new head of business, with responsibility for administering the various CHO committees, on governance, finance, legal and marketing. Peter will also represent CHO member companies on the GTA technical committee (which oversees the operation of the GTA, a voluntary protocol that insurers and credit hire companies use to manage replacement vehicle motor claims).

Matt Rowland has also joined the CHO as head of marketing and business development, responsible for member relations and services. Peter’s is a new role, reflecting the increased scope and reach of the CHO, while Matt replaces Ian Budsworth, who has left for a new role in the credit repair sector.

CHO chair Kirsty McKno, said: “I’m delighted to welcome two such high calibre individuals to the CHO. This is a period of major change for our sector, driven by changes in government policy, the continued revolution in technology and the changing requirements of our customers.”

“Our strategic focus will continue to be on removing frictional costs and reducing the proportion of claims which end up in court. We are also keen to co-operate more closely with insurers on counter fraud, which is a major problem for the sector, and where the solutions lie in working together.”

She added: “The CHO is first and foremost a membership organisation and our primary aim is maintaining a business environment that allows our members to continue to serve hundreds of thousands of customers each year with their mobility needs. Peter and Matt will be an important part of making sure this is maintained.”

“Peter’s previous experience in the credit hire sector at Helphire (now Redde Plc) and more recently at Trak Global, where he was CFO, will be enormously valuable in better managing our committee processes and our interactions with other stakeholders.”

Kirsty said that marketeer Matt Rowland has a strong background in football. He held a marketing role at Notts County FC, and worked in the women’s football sector where he signed some of the world’s best players, including players in the recent World Cup. “Matt

has been recognised nationally by the FA for his marketing work in this sector and we are delighted that he will bring these skills to the CHO.”

About the CHO

The CHO is the trade body that represents the interests of CHCs. CHCs provide temporary replacement vehicles (“TRVs”) to non-fault parties following road traffic accidents.

Non-fault parties are legally entitled to be put back in to the position they were in before the accident, which means that a mobility solution will be required while their own damaged vehicle is being dealt with. The fault party is liable to pay their reasonable costs of arranging this without them having to make a claim on their policy. CHC’s work with non-fault customers to provide that service in the most cost effective way possible and more often than not in accordance with industry agreements with at fault insurers.

The CHO works collaboratively with third parties to reduce friction in the industry by improving regulatory and compliance processes and championing innovation, especially where it improves the experience of our customers.

Our collaborative strategy follows the final report of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation into credit hire in 2015, which found that credit hire companies provide a legitimate service to non-fault accident victims who require mobility, at minimal cost to the policy holder. We continue to work to reduce that cost further.
