Partnerships: AG Insurance Launches co.mobility Platform

Mobility needs and solutions are evolving at speed. London may see e-scooters road legal later this year, more PAYG insurance, such as Zego’s app-based policies, may well become the norm for occasional car drivers. Car-sharing, via PCP or lease finance within a single household might be another growing trend as families look for alternatives to the multi-car policies sold by call centres and online comparison sites.

Then there are cycle commuters, food and parcel delivery riders, part-time drivers working in the care sector, or pharmacy product deliveries. Partly business use, sometimes personal & social journeys. Fact is, one size insurance does not fit all.

At the same time, the mobility sector faces numerous social challenges in the areas of climate, technology, urbanization, the role of government and public transport. Councils and the UK government may well restrict car use severely, seeking to ban petrol/diesel in the future, with those bans affecting busy urban areas by the end of the 2020s perhaps.

In response to this changing market, AG Insurance has become a co-founder in the creation of co.mobility, a unique mobility ecosystem that brings together Belgian companies, universities, governments, public institutions, … to promote innovation and tackle current mobility challenges in an efficient and sustainable manner.

From October 2020, co.mobility will enable the development of concrete mobility solutions, not only smart applications and MaaS (Mobility as a Service), but also new services and infrastructures. In addition to AG, BNP Paribas Fortis, Brussels Airport Company, NMBS, STIB and Touring are also founders.

CEO Hans De Cuyper commented:

The mobility of the future – and it really isn’t that far away – will look fundamentally different from today. At AG, we think with an open mind and the necessary creativity how we can contribute to more efficient and greener mobility, for our customers and for society.

The challenges are so important that no actor can afford to look for solutions alone. On the contrary, the more we manage to think globally with partners in all areas involved, the more widely supported and more efficient the solutions will be. That is precisely the strength of co.Mobility, an ecosystem that brings together the main players in this domain to build an integrated mobility solution in one global platform
