Senior Job Moves & Hires 19.07.2021

It’s been a while since IE mag did a round-up of senior job moves and new hires, so here goes;

TEMPCOVER

Short-term motor insurance specialist Tempcover has appointed Ryan Bendelow as Partnerships Director as part of its strategy to consolidate its success in the automotive retail and insurance aggregator sectors, while focusing on expanding its reach into new and underserved sectors, such as the broker market.

Bendelow obtained 13 years of experience at multinational insurer RSA, where he held various roles including leading a national SME deals team, eTrading Channel Manager and Sales Manager for the South Broker Development team. Since March 2020, he held the role of Head of B2B Sales at Zego – an InsurTech specialising in commercial motor insurance – where he set the distribution strategy, grew the broker partner base and delivered against the new business budget.

In his new role, Bendelow will be responsible for expediting the growth of Tempcover’s existing partnerships, while developing new ones too.

ECCLESIASTICAL

Specialist financial services group Ecclesiastical has appointed Rita Bajaj as a non-executive director, effective from 15 July 2021.  

Rita joins the Ecclesiastical board with over 30 years of financial markets experience. She has held senior investment portfolio manager positions at Royal London and Invesco Perpetual and managed global and US equity vehicles for several major US investment institutions.

Her most recent executive role was EMEA Chief Administrative Officer at the US custodian bank State Street Corporation. She joined State Street from the Financial Conduct Authority where, as a former regulator, she managed the supervision of large UK asset management and custodian firms.

GALLAGHER

Gallagher recently announced it has appointed Erik Alsegard to oversee a new intellectual property (IP) insurance practice.

Erik Alsegard joins Gallagher following a seven year tenure at CFC Underwriting, where he was the IP Practice Lead. He has also held specialist IP insurance positions at Munich Re and Miller.

As IP Director, Erik will report into Executive Director, Tom Draper, who runs Gallagher’s cyber practice, and his first priority will be to offer the services to existing Gallagher clients that have a demand in this growing area of specialist insurance.

NORTH P&I CLUB

Global marine insurer North P&I Club has reaffirmed its drive for diversification by appointing Nick Wolfe as Deputy Global Director (Underwriting), reflecting a significant expansion in his leadership role in developing the diversification strategy.

Wolfe joins Simon Main and Steve Rebair as one of three Deputy Global Directors (Underwriting) responsible for delivering the Group’s underwriting strategy and reporting to Thya Kathiravel, Chief Underwriting Officer, North.

SOMPO

Sompo International Holdings Ltd., a global Bermuda-based specialty provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance, announced today the appointment of Marco Serra as Vice President, Professional Lines.

He joins Sompo International from ArgoGlobal Assicurazioni in Rome, where he was Chief Underwriting Officer. Marco will be based in Sompo International’s Barcelona office and report to Mathieu Borneuf, SVP Head Professional Lines for Continental Europe.

McKENZIE INTELLIGENCE

Leading geospatial imagery and re/insurance intelligence company, McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), is pleased to announce that Louise Jones has joined its team as Head of Intelligence. Louise has spent seven years serving as an Officer in the British Army Intelligence Corps – including in Germany, Afghanistan and Canada – and also has experience working outside the military in the Civil Service, financial services and investigative journalism.

As MIS Head of Intelligence, Louise will lead a team of in-house, military-trained damage assessment specialists as the business continues to expand its award-winning capabilities and client base internationally.

ENCOMPASS CORPORATION

ATRADIUS

Trade credit insurer Atradius has bolstered its regional presence with a new UK north manager. Alastair Divers has been appointed to the role of account manager for Atradius’ northern hub, bringing experience in working with corporate clients and passion for international affairs.

Alastair has more than a decade of corporate client experience dealing with customers across a range of sectors from technology and healthcare to education, charity and government. Prior to joining Atradius, Alastair was corporate account manager for waste management company Biffa, responsible for high-level strategic planning and commercial development.

PARTNERS&

Jonathan Miller has joined Partners& as UK Sales Director to spearhead its commitment to developing a range of industry practices, including recruitment, transportation, automotive, food and drink, and M&A. He will report directly to Phil Barton and will join the Executive Team. Since starting his career with Alexander Forbes as a graduate trainee, Jonathan has built a leading reputation and specialist knowledge in the food and drink and M&A sectors, most recently at JLT and Marsh.

SEDGWICK

Sedgwick, a leading global provider of technology-enabled risk, benefits and integrated business solutions, has appointed Colleen Spence as its head of data science in the UK.

In her new role, Spence will lead Sedgwick’s data science capability in the UK, working closely with the company’s global chief data officer, Adam Fisher. Spence will harness new predictive technologies, techniques and data sources to provide actionable insight for Sedgwick’s UK
clients, assisting them in reducing claims costs and improving customer satisfaction. She will also work with Sedgwick’s UK operations teams to identify opportunities for improving process efficiency and effectiveness.

Spence has over 15 years of experience as a data scientist and analytics professional. She joins Sedgwick from a major insurance group, where she served as analytics lead for nine years. There she honed her leadership and management skills, delivering customer-focused analytics
and data science insights that drove business growth. She is also experienced in project management, machine learning/data science algorithms and stakeholder management.
