Online training platform, Virtual College, has launched a new RoSPA Assured Abrasive Wheels course for workers handling abrasive wheel power tools.
Approximately 5,000 people are injured every year in the UK while using abrasive wheels, including tools such as angle grinders, sanders and pipe cutters. The course supports employers in protecting workers, particularly across maintenance, construction, manufacturing and engineering roles.
Aligning with Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (1998) (PUWER) and The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), the course is designed to help employers meet legal obligations to prevent workplace accidents and ensure employee safety.
Liz Longman, health and safety expert at Virtual College, said, “Abrasive wheels can cause life-changing injuries if they are not properly used and maintained. This course provides workers and their managers with the essential knowledge required to understand the risks, implement effective control measures, and establish safe systems of working to prevent serious accidents.
“Competence and training are legal requirements and are fundamental for protecting employees, improving safety standards, and reducing workplace incidents.”
A RoSPA assured and CPD-approved Virtual College abrasive wheels certificate is issued upon course completion.
