NFU Mutual Appoints New Directors

NFU Mutual has appointed Jon Bailie and Ali Capper to its Main Board of Directors.

The appointments strengthen the financial and agricultural acumen of the UK’s leading rural insurer.

Based in Stratford-upon-Avon, NFU Mutual provides insurance including commercial, home and motor policies together with Life products including, pensions, and investments. NFU Mutual’s 2017 results show the total value of assets under management has grown to over £20bn by the end of last year.

“NFU Mutual has a great reputation for putting its members first,” said Jon. “Its capital position makes it financially strong and its Life business is going through a really exciting transformation.  I have joined the Board at a very interesting time and I look forward to helping the company develop and grow its Life business.”

Ali, who has served on NFU Mutual’s Regional Advisory Board for the Midlands since May 2014 runs Stocks Farm, near Suckley, on the Worcestershire-Herefordshire border in partnership with her husband and father-in-law.  A hop and fruit farm for over 200 years, the business comprises 100 acres of hops and 100 acres of apples.

Ali is Chairman of NFU Horticulture & Potatoes Board, and English Apples & Pears, Director of the British Hop Association, Trustee of the Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust, and a Director of Wye Fruit.

“NFU Mutual is part of the bed-rock of UK agriculture,” said Ali. “Since 1910 it has been protecting the businesses and families of farmers and growers and remains a strong mutual run for the benefit of members. It also provides financial support for the NFU.

“In my new role I will be working to ensure that NFU Mutual provides the right products for today’s farms and rural businesses and continues to deliver its renowned local service to its members and supports them through the current challenging times for farmers.”

Jon took up his role in March while Ali joined NFU Mutual’s 12-strong main Board, which includes eight non-executive directors, on 9th April.
