FirstVet Teams Up With Covea on Free Video Vet Service for Pets

FirstVet (www.firstvet.com), the startup which provides pet-owners with on-demand video consultations with local, qualified veterinarians, today announces a partnership with Covéa Insurance, to allow its customers to receive free video vet appointments via their mobile devices, enabling them to receive expert advice while they and their pets are in the comfort of their own home.

Once a customer has downloaded the FirstVet app (available on iOS and Android) and set up an account, they can make use of the use of the video appointment service as often as is required.

Using the FirstVet app customers can have their pets examined by vets remotely, with it not always being necessary to take an animal into a veterinary clinic. The ability to receive on-demand video vet appointments is more important than ever due to the COVID-19 lockdown, with pet owners unable to visit their local veterinary clinic.

Customers can save time, money and potential stress to their pet by using the free FirstVet service, while also alleviating the strain on the veterinary surgeries. When a referral to a local vet is needed, FirstVet provides detailed notes of the initial consultation to both the owner and the vet so that all parties remain fully informed at all times.

There are currently 200 veterinarians on the FirstVet platform, with this number growing continually.

FirstVet and insurance companies

Covéa Insurance is FirstVet’s 31st insurance partner across all markets and its fourth in the United Kingdom, alongside Waggel, LV, and Bought By Many. By partnering with insurance companies, FirstVet is able to offer its service free-of-charge, for millions of pet owners.

Founded in 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden, FirstVet has successfully increased efficiency within the veterinary industry by being the first independent point of contact for pet owners who are worried about their pet’s wellbeing. With a presence in five markets (the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and its native Sweden), FirstVet has more than 300,000 registered users and has helped over 200,000 pets since launching in 2016. FirstVet delivers over 20,000 consultations every month across Scandinavia and the UK, and has an average customer rating of 4.9/5 from over 50,000 user reviews.

In November 2019, FirstVet announced it had raised €18.5 million, enabling the startup to expand its service globally in other markets, such as the United States, Germany, and France. In addition, FirstVet will continue to develop its product and introduce new features to improve the experience for pet owners and vets alike, such as new automation tools and integration with clinics’ existing systems.

David Prien, FirstVet CEO & co-founder, comments: “We are delighted to welcome Covéa Insurance on board as our next insurance partner. Through these partnerships with insurance companies, we are able to achieve our goal of helping as many pet owners receive the remote care they need for their pets as possible, something which is even more important during the lockdown.”

Ian Bubb, Head of Pet at Covéa Insuranceadds: “We recognise that during these uncertain times that customers with pets may need additional support to help them care for their animals, and we believe the FirstVet app will help to provide customers with peace of mind and allow them to get advice quickly. We’re pleased to partner with FirstVet to deliver this valuable service to our customers”
