One thing you never have enough of when running a small business is time. If someone breaks a contract, stops paying rent or sues over an alleged grievance, it can really take your eye off the ball and cost you money, as well as precious time. Here’s some news from Direct Line, who have launched Legal Essentials and Tools Essentials for small businesses and tradespeople.
The Legal Essentials service will provide SMEs with a comprehensive legal documents service and 24/7 helpline, preventing legal issues from throwing them off track. The insurer’s Tools Essentials service, meanwhile, will help replace tradespeople’s most important equipment within 24 hours after just a few simple checks.
Smaller legal problems can take up valuable time and energy – a distraction that SMEs could do without during an uncertain economic period.
Direct Line’s packaged legal service proposition provides SMEs with DAS Businesslaw, a free legal document and business guide service. The service, designed to solve everyday business needs, is provided in partnership with DAS UK, the UK’s leading provider of specialist legal expenses insurance, and Farillio, which provides the technology behind the platform.
Small businesses can access a library of legal templates, tools and guides to help them run their business and stay compliant with the latest regulatory changes. They can use the service to create ready-to-sign contracts, agreements, policies and letters. All documents are developed and regularly updated by legal experts and are customisable via a smart document builder.
The service can help in over 23 business areas. These include concerns with business planning and growth, disagreements, tax, Covid-19, data security and protection, fundraising, family business matters and sub-contracting.
Direct Line customers also have access to a 24/7 legal advice helpline. Whether SMEs are facing a serious legal issue, or just want to check something with a solicitor, small businesses can consult a team of legal experts whenever they need to.
The improved legal package is suitable for any SME. The service flexes to meet the needs of small businesses from newly formed sole traders to established Ltd companies or partnerships.
Direct Line has also launched Tools Essentials, a service which helps to replace stolen or damaged tools quickly so that tradespeople can get back to work quickly. The insurer will help to replace essential tools within 24 hours, with an upfront faster payment of up to £1,500, subject to claims validation. Tools Essentials is available to every customer who has a valid tools claim and policy with Direct Line – Business. Claims can be reported between 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday, except Bank Holidays. Policy limits and exclusions apply.
Jonny McHugh, SME Business Manager at Direct Line, said: “We know how important it is that small business owners and tradespeople are protected against legal issues and that they have the tools they need to get on with their job.
“Our Legal Essentials offering is designed to give small business owners the legal advice and guidance that they often lack due to the costs involved in seeking legal support. Our dedicated 24/7 helpline and documentation service will be invaluable in helping SMEs stay compliant and one step ahead.
