Carbon Underwriting Limited (Carbon), the specialist, independent managing general underwriter (MGU), announces today the appointment of Fergus Cooney as Data Analytics Engineer as it expands further its data analytics capabilities. Fergus joins Carbon from Railsbank where he played an integral role in delivering large scale end-to-end data projects as well as championing the use of data in support of key financial, product and pricing strategies.
This latest appointment is a further expansion of Carbon’s strong data analytics expertise following the recent hires of Mark Oldroyd as Head of Data Engineering and Alexander Scott as Pricing Analyst.
Lloyd’s managing agency AEGIS London has appointed leading underwriter Lizzie Powell to the newly created role of Head of Specialty Delegated Facilities. Joining from Canopius Group, where she was Head of Canopius Special Risk, Lizzie will build out the diversified follow portfolio that complements AEGIS London’s strong performing core account whilst adding new and accretive opportunity for profit.
Lizzie takes up her new role with immediate effect reporting to AEGIS London’s Head of Specialty, Ben Lockwood.
Allianz Insurance has promoted Emily Mills to the newly created position of operations manager for claims. The role will bolster Allianz’s ongoing investment in digitalisation and continuous improvement of customer service delivery.
Emily will lead on data and automation projects designed to enhance claims experience and support customers. She will be reporting to operations manager Ben Truseler.
In her previous role as broker partner manager, based in Bristol, Emily led a team of underwriters and created a central hub servicing brokers, delivering both excellent customer ratings and employee engagement. She took part in the Allianz UK Pathway Leadership Programme and in the most recent Allianz global transformation programme, in which she supported the sales workstream lead.
Hippo, the home insurance group that created a new standard of care and protection for homeowners, today announced new leadership to its technology team led by Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Ran Harpaz, including the appointment of the company’s first Chief Information Officer (CIO), Klarissa Marenitch.
In the past year, Hippo has doubled the size of its employee base and scaled to reach homeowners across 34 states, driving a deeper focus on the alignment of Hippo’s internal technology infrastructure and systems to support Hippo’s growth and expansion to reach millions more homeowners across the country.
Zurich Insurance Group (Zurich) has appointed Timothy Powell (pictured) as Global Head Financial Lines and Cyber, a newly created role that combines lines of business and simplifies the Group’s offering. Mr. Powell starts May 24, 2021 and will report to Ralph Brand, Global Head of Casualty, Financial Lines and Cyber.
“I am delighted to welcome Timothy to the team”, said Mr. Brand. “His very strong underwriting background and his long experience of leading international teams make him an ideal fit for this role. I have every confidence that he will help us leverage the combined expertise and resources of financial lines and cyber to enhance underwriting services to our customers.”
In his new role, Mr. Powell will be working closely with Zurich’s country offices and provide product expertise and counsel to optimize underwriting performance, foster a consistent underwriting approach across regions and ensure a balanced product mix that serves the increasingly complex risks of customers. His area of responsibility includes professional indemnity, directors and officers liability, mergers & acquisition, financial institutions, employers liability and cyber insurance.
Mr. Powell joins Zurich from AXA XL, where he most recently served as Chief Underwriting Officer for International Financial Lines. He will be based in Switzerland. Throughout his career, he has worked with brokers and teams of underwriters in Australia, Asia, the UK and continental Europe. Mr. Powell has more than 30 years of insurance experience and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of New England.
Generali’s P&C unit Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) announces the appointment of Marc Wekkeli as new Head of Property Underwriting in Germany to further enhance strategy execution.
Effective June 7th, Marc Wekkeli is appointed GC&C Germany Head of Property Underwriting, directly reporting to the Head of GC&C Germany Hans-Peter Klebe. In his new capacity, Marc will be responsible for ensuring technical excellence and profitability of the German property portfolio.
With over 25 years of international experience in the insurance industry, Marc is recognized as a highly technical leader in the market, having developed sundry underwriting experience in several property-related lines. In the past 17 years, Marc has held leadership roles of increasing responsibility at Swiss Re in Germany, the US, in Singapore and Australia.

Cyber Risk Aware, which delivers real-time cyber security awareness training to staff in response to actual staff network behaviour, is excited to announce that Nick Wilding has joined the team as Chief Innovation Officer (CINO) at a time of growth in the expanding security awareness training (SAT) market.
In his new role, Nick will oversee the research, design and launch of new human risk management and behaviour change solutions that address the changing market need – migrating away from traditional ‘tick-the-box’ training to more intelligent behaviour driven techniques. This work will be underpinned by new research and input through close relationships with academia, clients, industry experts and the sales and technical teams at Cyber Risk Aware.

Marsh HAS announced the appointment of Alex Dahlmann as Head of Office for its Swedish captive operations, Marsh Management Services AB Sweden.
In this role, Mr. Dahlmann is responsible for the development and delivery of best-in-class captive management, insurance, accounting, regulatory compliance, and consulting services to captive owners in the region. Established in 2007, Marsh Management Services AB Sweden supports a wide range of clients including public entity and government-owned companies to those listed on major global stock exchanges.
Based in Stockholm, Mr. Dahlman will report to William Thomas-Ferrand, International Practice Leader, Marsh Captive Solutions.
