Job Moves & Appointments 21.05.21

It’s been a while since we last did a round-up of the latest senior job moves and appointments, so here goes;


Neil Poulton has been appointed managing director at GRP owned Thomas Sagar Insurance (Sagars). He started at the end of March 2021.

Business founder John Meadows will remain involved with Sagars, in particular client relationship management, but he has stepped back from his leadership role, with Poulton taking overall responsibility for the Burnley-based broker and reporting to Neil Thornton, GRP MD Retail.

Sagar is a chartered insurance broker that provides insurance solutions for the corporate, business and private sectors. Founded over 60 years ago, it was acquired by GRP in 2018. Neil joins Sagars from Marsh Commercial where he was a branch director.


IAA, Inc. (NYSE: IAA) continues to grow its UK senior leadership team with appointment of Mark Bishop as UK Transport Manager. This position will direct the continued growth of IAA’s transport capacity and logistics capabilities across its UK business.

Since August 2020, IAA has made several significant investments into technology and resources to support transport and logistics initiatives. It first implemented the INFORM Transport Management system, and since has significantly expanded both its vehicle transporter fleet and delivery service capabilities.

Greater Than (GREAT) the Insurtech using AI to predicting motor risk has appointed a new management group, which consists of a combination of former Greater Than employees and a couple of recruits.

New recruitments are Markus Waldenström named CFO. Markus most recently comes from Telia Ventures. Helena Norrthon is recruited as General Counsel. Before joining Greater Than, Helena was serving as General Counsel at SIS. New to the team is also Lars Jatko who is appointed as Head of Product Development for the company, effective May 17, 2021. Lars comes most recently from a long-term assignment at Nasdaq.

Eva Voors, Chief Communication Officer who has been in the company for two and a half year is now joining the executive team together with Johanna Forseke, Chief Business Officer at Greater Than.


Consilium, the international (re)insurance broker, part of The Aventum Group, has today announced the appointment of Andrew Sommerville as Head of Speciality.

With 36 years’ Aviation broking experience, Andrew joins Consilium with market leading expertise in Aviation broking.  He was previously the Managing Director for niche Aviation broker Grimme Butcher Jones.  Prior to that he was at Integro (now Tysers) and spent 14 years with Aon and 10 years with Marsh before that, all specialising in Aviation broking.

Andrew will be responsible for managing and growing all niche Specialty lines business at Consilium, including developing its international Aviation business – an area experiencing significant capacity and market trend changes, and offering huge growth opportunities globally.


Leading legal expenses insurance and assistance provider ARAG has appointed Heather Wilmot to the position of Claims Operations Manager. In this newly created role, Heather will be responsible for the operational management of both Before-the-Event and After-the-Event claims functions.

Focusing on the customer experience, Heather will ensure that ARAG’s award-winning claims teams continue to deliver the market-leading service on which the company’s success has been built.

“Heather has contributed as much as anyone to developing the outstanding claims service, on which our BTE policyholders and partners depend.” commented Head of Claims, Chris Millward. “I’m very pleased to put the responsibility for both BTE and ATE claims operations in her capable hands.”


CFC, the specialist insurance provider, pioneer in emerging risk and market leader in cyber today announced that it has introduced a new layer of senior underwriting management.

This team has been formed to support CFC’s ambitious growth plans and help the executive team to deliver on its mission and strategy. The five new appointments are:

·         Tim Boyce, Head of Professions and Healthcare

·         Michael Brunero, Head of Tech, Media & Intellectual Property

·         James Burns, Head of Cyber

·         Kate Lyes, Head of Specialty Lines

·         Gus Marshall, Head of Transaction Liability

Wayne Harrington, who joined CFC as Head of Property and Casualty three years ago, also forms part of this new senior underwriting management team. CFC now writes 50 innovative products across 17 lines of specialist insurance, serving over 100,000 businesses in 80 countries.


Fast-growing life insurance broker Protect Line has appointed Pedro Coimbra Fernandes as Chief Financial Officer. 

Fernandes joins the Dorset-based company from London Stock Exchange-listed Hiscox, where he was Interim Chief Financial Officer of London Market and Hiscox Syndicates Limited.

He has held similar roles at a number of other organisations, most notably AIG (American International Group), where he covered various territories including the UK, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa. He has specific experience of working in the protection market globally. 


Cytora announces that Karen Green has joined the company’s advisory board, where she will play a key role in driving Cytora’s growth as part of its mission to digitise commercial insurance risk.

Green was previously CEO of Aspen UK and served on the Aspen Group Executive Committee for 12 years. She is currently a Non-Executive Director at Phoenix Group Holdings Plc, Admiral Insurance Group Plc and Asta Managing Agency Ltd. She is also a Council member of Lloyd’s of London and is Vice President of the Insurance Institute of London.

The hire marks the latest addition to Cytora’s growing advisory board following the recent appointments of Kelly Lyles, former CEO, Client and Country Management at AXA XL, and Thomas Huerlimann, ex-CEO, Global Corporate, at Zurich Insurance.


Effective May 17, Maria Grace, will be appointed Global Head of Property at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS), reporting directly to Chief Underwriting Officer Corporate, Tony Buckle. Grace succeeds Thierry Portevin, who leads AGCS’s global risk consulting team since March 2021.

Maria Grace joins AGCS from Everest Re Group, where she served as the Chief Underwriting Officer for Property and Inland Marine at the Group’s Insurance Company. Prior to Everest Re, she held numerous executive and managerial roles at Starr Companies, AIG North America and AIG’s Latin American and Caribbean division. Grace has over 23 years of commercial underwriting and claims experience and holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia and a Juris Master’s Degree from George Mason University School of Law in the United States. Currently based in the United States, she will re-locate to AGCS’s headquarter in Munich in the coming months.
