UK General has appointed David Boulcott (pictured below) as chief underwriting officer (CUO). David joins the Leeds-based business with effect from 1st January 2022 and will report to Tim Smyth, CEO, as part of the executive team. David’s appointment is subject to regulatory approval. Mr Boulcott is a permanent replacement for David Brown, who returns to the USA after fulfilling the role on an interim basis during 2021. Tim Smyth said: “David [Brown] has been a tremendous asset to the business and leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future.”
Tim Smyth said: “I am delighted that we have been able to appoint such a seasoned and experienced underwriter in David Boulcott as CUO.”
“He will play a pivotal role in supporting our drive for profitable growth across UK General, and in particular utilising our investment in business intelligence capability to enable us to achieve pricing sophistication, underwriting advantage and an enhanced customer journey.”
Tim added: “David has been involved with Primary Group (owners of UKG) for some time and is well known in the business, among our external stakeholders and colleagues. He has already built a good understanding of our strategy and operations which enables him to hit the ground running in January as we really push forward with our growth plans.”

Prior to joining UK General, David was CUO at Primary Group companies Best Doctors Insurance Ltd and Surestone Reinsurance Ltd. He began his underwriting career at RSA in 1982 and has also held senior underwriting roles at Independent Insurance, Fusion Insurance and Towergate Underwriting Group.
