Will the Travel insurance sector revive in 2022? It is looking likely, to an extent, although much depends upon whether the politicians in France, Austria, Italy and other countries realise that vax passports/mandates will turn their nations into no-go areas. In the meantime, UK tourism may well enjoy a better summer season and those who do venture overseas may well face less onerous busybody paperwork when they return. Still extremely disappointing that the unvaccinated – and that means anyone without 3 jabs, possibly 4 by late 2022 – cannot travel without extra layers of noseyparkering, testing and fees.
Antony Martin, Managing Director at ROCK Insurance Group comments:
“The UK Government’s commitment to scrap Day 2 testing for fully-vaccinated people arriving into England is the positive news that the travel industry needed – it’s perfect timing for families to book their February half-term and Easter holiday breaks. We are seeing positive steps in the recovery of travel as simplifying the process and taking Day 2 testing costs out of the equation is providing people with more confidence to travel.
We have already seeing green shoots of recovery in the travel insurance market this year. Since the government abolished mandatory PCR and lateral flow tests for fully vaccinated travellers into the UK in early January, we have seen record sales coming through our B2C brand, Insurefor.com. Policy volumes have more than doubled compared to the same period in 2019 – predominantly by the younger market with 80% of customers who have booked under the age of 60 – and we expect this to continue increasing following today’s announcement. While the pandemic may not be over, we are optimistic about the recovery of the travel industry in 2022.”
For pre-departure testing requirements, ROCK Insurance Group’s B2C brand, Insurefor offers an ‘Insure and Test’ product in partnership with certified COVID-19 test provider DocHQ – an anti-gen and PCR testing product that can be booked with a 35% discount when you buy Insurefor travel insurance. All tests are administered in front of a healthcare professional via a live, secure online consultation process https://www.insurefor.com/covid-19-testing-with-offer/
