HSBC & Premium Credit Sign Up To ABI Flexi Work Charter

It looks like working from home is the new normal for anyone with an office type job. Good news for anyone looking to save on commuting by car, or laying out 5K a year on a season ticket. Here’s the word from the ABI;

HSBC Life, Just Group, and Premium Credit Ltd are the latest firms to sign up to the Association of British Insurers’ (ABI) Making Flexible Work Charter, one year on from its launch. The ABI’s Making Flexible Work Charter launched in April 2021 and aims to increase flexible working opportunities across the insurance and long-term savings industry.

Firms who sign the Charter agree to fulfil three key commitments within 12 months, including:

  • Publishing details of flexible working policies, so that they are available for employees and prospective candidates.
  • Advertising the majority of roles as being open to flexible working, including part-time working and job-shares if appropriate.
  • Implementing processes and guidance to support and promote different forms of flexible working, including job sharing.

These commitments aim to attract and retain the very best talent from all backgrounds, unlocking career opportunities for disabled people and supporting more women to progress into senior roles.

Mitchell Barker, Head of Product and Chief Distribution Officer at HSBC Life (UK) Ltd, said:

“Flexible working enables our colleagues to better balance their working lives with their personal responsibilities and commitments to others and themselves. We see flexible working as a considerable win-win for employees and their employer. Greater autonomy and personal freedom promote better work/life balance and a more inclusive environment to help to attract and retain diverse talent whilst boosting productivity. We fully support the ABI’s Charter and we are focused on doing the very best we can for our people in helping to reshape and evolve both our working practices and those of the insurance sector.”

Lisa Davis, Chief People Officer at Just Group, said:

“The ABI Charter is a welcome development that Just Group is pleased to be part of. The insurance industry is showing leadership on flexible working and we hope the effect is catching, so that other firms, industries and organisations follow suit until it becomes a normal part of working life. The benefits for firms and employees are clear to see.”

Josie Pileio, Chief Operations and People Officer at Premium Credit, said:

“We’re pleased to have signed up to this innovative ABI charter and further develop our credentials in this important area. Our ongoing aim is to create an environment where people are treated fairly and have access to equal opportunities, endorsing a culture of flexible working is part of this ethos. We are a purpose-led organisation proudly supporting our community of customers and partners. It’s important for us to deliver this purpose in an inclusive manner.”

Yvonne Braun, Executive Sponsor for Diversity and Inclusion at the Association of British Insurers, said:

“As we celebrate the first anniversary of the Charter, we’re delighted HSBC Life, Just Group, and Premium Credit have joined our flexible working revolution. Their commitment takes us one step closer to the full range of flexible working opportunities being available right across the insurance and long-term savings sector.”
