It’s time for the usual Monday morning reound up of job moves and senior hires, here goes;

CANOPIUS

Canopius Group, a leading global specialty (re)insurer, today announces the appointment of Tracey Corrigan to the role of group head of change, effective 3 October 2022.

With overall responsibility for the group wide change portfolio, programme & project management delivery and operational excellence capability, Tracey will be instrumental in driving Canopius’ long-term strategic aims across all geographies. Strengthening the operating model and measuring the impact of change are further key aspects of Tracey’s role, to future proof the rapidly expanding business and ensure sustainable growth.

Tracey will be based in London and report to Group COO Kate Roy. She brings more than 30 years of experience in operations management and business modernisation to Canopius. She joins from QBE where she held the position of business transformation leader. Prior to this she was at AIG, where since 1992 she held several key positions, most recently commercial operations executive.

HORWICH FARRELLY 

HF, the UK and Ireland’s leading legal advisers to the insurance and commercial sectors, has appointed two new partners to its growing team. They will work with and advise clients at a strategic level as well as furthering innovative tactics. Their appointment reinforces and support HF’s ambitious growth plans as a business.

Jonathan Hodgkinson has over 16 years’ experience in defendant insurance litigation and, for the last 10 years, motor litigation. Previously at Weightmans LLP, he managed a number of client relationships and was the Head of Service Delivery for the Motor department. More recently he led the “vulnerable road users” group and was a member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (“PACTS”) consortium of experts on their project “Assessing the safety of private e-scooters use in the UK” and has presented widely alongside PACTS and other experts on this issue and on the recent changes in the Highway Code and the impact.

Liam McGuire was a Partner at Weightmans LLP, having joined from Pinsent Masons.  He has practiced commercial litigation and personal injury. He was the lead partner on motor at Weightmans and led on numerous claims handling initiatives including portal incubation, pre action disclosure of claimant documentation and tinnitus/deafness in motor claims.  He has a particular interest in  the application of behavioural science to claims handling. At Weightmans, he managed several key client relationships, driving collaboration between insurer and lawyer at all levels.

THOMAS MILLER

Thomas Miller, the international provider of market leading insurance services, intends to appoint Hugh Titcomb as its new Chief Executive, subject to shareholder approval, replacing Bruce Kesterton.

Hugh Titcomb Joined Thomas Miller in 2016 having held a broad range of senior leadership roles within the financial services sector. Hugh has a strong understanding of the Thomas Miller Group, developed through his role as Chief Executive of the Group’s investment business, Thomas Miller Investment, and as a member of the Group Executive Committee. These positions have enabled Hugh to establish valuable working relationships across Thomas Miller’s managed businesses, its owned businesses and with clients, third party partners and staff.

Hugh has been selected by the Board to replace Bruce Kesterton as Chief Executive of the Thomas Miller Group following a rigorous selection process, conducted both externally and internally. Bruce Kesterton, who is retiring, joined Thomas Miller in 1987 and has been a member of the Thomas Miller Holdings board since 1999.

MYHEALTH

my mhealth, a leading Digital Therapeutics (DTx) company based in the UK, is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. David Pettigrew as CEO. David will guide the organisation in its mission to improve the quality of care for people with long term conditions, through digital health. Having spent time in the US successfully growing a healthcare technology business for a UK-based company, David is ideally placed to lead my mhealth’s expansion into the US market.

SIMCORP

SimCorp has appointed Michael Bjergby as new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), who will now step into his role at the company on December 1, 2022. Michael Bjergby joins SimCorp’s Executive Management Board and will be responsible for leading the company’s global Finance, IT, Legal, Investor Relations and Procurement teams.

Michael Bjergby comes to SimCorp from global facility services company ISS, where he most recently served as SVP and Head of Group Finance. Previously, Michael held various finance positions in large Danish OMXC25 companies, and also served as Group CFO of private equity-owned HTL-Strefa and Regional CFO for ReSound. Michael holds a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Copenhagen.

DWF

DWF, the global provider of integrated legal and business services, has appointed a six-strong team of fraud experts into the Birmingham office to join the business’ multi award winning global counter fraud team.

The team is led by director Neville Sampson, who has more than 15 years’ experience in fraud defence litigation and who has worked very closely with various insurers over the years in developing robust fraud philosophies and establishing successful fraud defence strategies.

Neville and the team – joining from DAC Beachcroft – bring with them key market expertise to complement DWF’s global market leading and multi-award winning counter fraud team.

GALLAGHER RE

Gallagher Re, the global reinsurance broker, has announces the appointments of David Bangs as Head of Gallagher Re APAC UK, based in London and Robin Swindell as Executive Officer, based in Tokyo.

David is returning to Gallagher Re having started his career with Willis Re in London in 2005, before being transferred to Tokyo where he spent five years followed by a transfer to Singapore. Most recently, David was Head of Japan for Axis Re.

Concurrently, Robin Swindell, who is currently responsible for Gallagher Re APAC UK, will transfer to Tokyo, joining Japan CEO Tsuyoshi Noguchi’s senior management team as an Executive Officer. In this role, he will play a vital part in the expansion of Gallagher Re’s service offering for the Japanese market and the broader region.  Robin has more than 30 years of reinsurance experience at Willis Re and now Gallagher Re, primarily in the Japanese and US markets.

BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has announced that it has opened a new office in Brussels, Belgium, and named several senior-level appointments.

Louis du Ché has been named to the role of Country Manager for Belgium. Louis joined BHSI in 2019 as Head of Property, France, and will retain that position as well. Frederic de Blieck has joined BHSI as Head of Executive & Professional Lines in Belgium. He comes to BHSI with more than 20 years of experience, most recently as Head of Financial Lines, Belgium and Luxembourg, at another global insurer.

Bram Boets has joined as Head of Property in Belgium. He has more than a decade of experience spanning both the underwriting and brokerage sides of the business, most recently as Senior Manager, Property, at a global brokerage in Brussels. David Bogaert has joined as Head of Customer & Broker Engagement in Belgium. He has 20 years of industry experience and was most recently Head of Distribution, Belgium, at another global insurer.

Koen Dupont has joined as Head of Casualty in Belgium. He has more than two decades of experience at brokerages and insurers and was most recently Head of Casualty, France, Belgium and Luxembourg at another global insurer.

GOT YOU COVERED

The personal lines insurance broker, Got You Covered Ltd, has announced that Lisa Powis will join the Executive Management Team in an advisory role as Non-Executive Director. This appointment takes immediate effect and is subject to registration with regulators.
Powis was previously Chief Executive of Fresh Insurance Services Group Limited, which she established in 2002 in Redditch, and grew the business to 250 employees, across two sites, and a turnover of £70m.  The company was sold in 2018 and Powis moved in to a number of consulting and advisory roles. Powis also served as a judge in the British Insurance Awards 2022.
Powis will be a vital asset to Got You Covered as the broker marches forward with plans for growth in its existing markets while progressing in to new sectors and products.
