Chartered insurance broker Verlingue Ltd. (Verlingue), has achieved bronze accreditation for its Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) approach from independent assessor EcoVadis, the leading provider of business sustainability ratings.
The move demonstrates Verlingue’s commitment to creating a sustainable business that can be handed down to future generations and underlines the wider group’s values and vision. The move is also a response to wider changes in the insurance market, with clients in the mid to large corporate sector, insurance carriers, and future employees all increasingly looking for evidence of ESG policies and practices.
The ESG drive is headed up by Andrew Sugden, Director of Operations, Verlingue, with the accreditation initiative led by Gayle Bennouir, Risk Management Director, who engaged all parts of the broking business in a bottom-up approach. The benchmarking process will also be repeated next year as part of a strategy of continual improvement. The documents and policies that form part of the ESG ranking are accessible, online, to external parties, such as those wishing to verify Verlingue’s ESG credentials match their own sustainable procurement policies.
EcoVadis is the world’s largest provider of business sustainability ratings, having assessed over 90,000 companies, and has also assessed the broker’s parent company in France.
Commenting on the move, Group CEO Mike Latham commented:
“Even before the ESG term was coined, our business was already well on the road to embrace the values it enshrines; values that resonate with those of our family-owned group, which is now in its fourth generation. Validation from a respected third-party is not however the end of the journey – and we are keen to constantly improve and investigate how we can ensure the business delivers on the E, the S, and the G in equal measure.”
