Job Moves & Senior Hires 24.10.22

It’s time once more to check out the latest insurance sector job moves;

ALLIANZ LIVE

 Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) has announced the appointment of Mark Whayling as the new Entertainment Global Product Lead for the Live sector, effective immediately. AGCS, Allianz’s entity for large-scale corporate and specialty risks, is a well-established market leader in entertainment insurance. 

In this role, Mark will be Chief Underwriter for AGCS’ Live Events, Sports and Contingency with global responsibility for this portfolio.  He will lead the technical underwriting and be responsible for the global Live Entertainment products – that help protect organizers, promotors, performers, equipment and audience members alike from the many risks that may be encountered with large and often complex live event productions.  Reporting to Michael Furtschegger, Global Head of Entertainment at AGCS, Mark will remain based in the London office. 

Mark was most recently Senior Underwriter, Live Entertainment, for AGCS’ London & Nordics region having joined Allianz in 2017.  Prior to that he worked as an Entertainment Underwriter at ProSight Syndicate 1100 from 2014 onwards.  

ALLIANZ COMMERCIAL

Allianz Commercial has appointed David Carey to the newly created position of managing director, mid-market, effective from April 2023. In this role, David will be responsible for leading Allianz Commercial’s regional trading teams, focusing delivery on key customer segments and driving profitable growth.

This reorganisation is part of a wider, multi-year strategy, with Allianz investing heavily in simplifying and harmonising its business model to enhance broker and customer satisfaction.

David joins Allianz from Aviva where he is currently director mid-market & regional speciality lines – UK Commercial, with P&L accountability for their mid-market business. Previously, David held the position of head of mid-market at Aviva as well as leading roles in Commercial, Mid- Corporate and Real Estate insurance at Zurich. Reporting to Simon McGinn, CEO of Allianz Commercial, David will be building on the exceptional deliveries from the regional trading teams over the last 12 months under the leadership of Nick Hobbs.

H&H BROKERS

An independent insurance brokers has welcomed an experienced industry specialist to its team as part of its ongoing expansion.

Corinne Cooper will work with clients across the North East and North Yorkshire in her new role as an account executive with H&H Insurance Brokers (HHIB). Corinne, who was previously an agent with the NFU Mutual, brings more than a decade of experience to HHIB, which operates across the North of England, the Scottish Borders and Wales.

She said: “After 12 years with the NFU Mutual, it felt like the right time in my career to make a move and H&H Insurance Brokers has provided me with a brilliant opportunity to do more of what I love about the job: working closely with clients to get the best possible cover for them – and being there when they need support.”

POOL RE

Pool Re, Britains leading terrorism reinsurer, has announced the appointment of Jonathan Gray as Chief Underwriting Officer elect. Gray will join Pool Re in November and work alongside current CUO Steve Coates before the latter’s retirement in early 2023.  During this period of overlap, the business will focus on responding to the outcome of the current member consultation which proposes to move Pool Re’s scheme to a catastrophe treaty model.

Gray has more than 30 years’ experience in the insurance market and joins Pool Re from Axis Re, where he most recently held the role of President of Global Specialties. Over many years at Axis and Novae (prior to its acquisition), he held increasingly senior positions, including Head of Axis’ business at Lloyd’s and Head of Property Reinsurance.  His assumption of the CUO role will be subject to regulatory approval.

QUOTECH

Quotech, the underwriter-led insurTech that creates practical systems for specialty insurers, brokers, and MGAs, has hired two additional personnel to meet burgeoning demand for its custom-built, data-focussed risk underwriting and distribution solutions. The hires follow Quotech’s successful £1 million fundraising from angel investors and Convex Group Limited, the international specialty insurer and reinsurer, announced in August.

David Pay joins Quotech as Product Manager. He arrives from Verisk’s Whitespace, where he was a Product Owner and Process Development Manager. Before that he worked as Senior Solutions Architect at Clearsight, which provides integrated risk management solutions, and as a business analyst.

Dr Shyam Reyal joins Quotech as Senior Software Developer. A Sun Certified Java Veteran, he has worked as Director of Innovation at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Cambridge, and, for six years, as Chief Technical Officer and Lead Developer of NOMAD at St Andrews.

ZYWAVE

Insurtech leader, Zywave, has announced the appointment of Rob Stavrou as Group VP, Carrier Sales, effective October 1st, 2022. Stavrou, who will be based in the United States, brings with him broad regional and international experience from the U.K. and U.S. markets, having held senior positions in the fields of IT consultancy, and insurance and reinsurance software solutions.

Most recently, Stavrou was Chief Commercial Officer (USA and APAC) at Verisk Specialty Business Solutions, having started his tenure with the firm in 2014 as Sales and Marketing Director. Prior to that, he was with Northdoor PLC where he fulfilled Business Development Manager, then Director of Consultancy roles for almost 20 years.

In his remit as Group VP of Carrier Sales, Stavrou is charged with further extending the value proposition of Zywave’s solutions to insurance carriers in alignment with the success the firm’s solutions have had to date in the broker market.

Commenting on his appointment, Stavrou cited the innovation culture and the acquisition strategy as key motivational factors in joining Zywave. He said, “I consider Zywave an exciting place to be. It’s exciting because of the people that work there, and because of the acquisition journey the company is on. I am attracted to the company’s ambitions to grow while maintaining a great experience for the customer.” He added, “I look forward to working with the enterprise carrier sales team to expand our solutions offering in international markets.”

CHUBB

Chubb has named Bill Hazelton Executive Vice President, Head of North America Industry Practices. In this newly created role, Mr. Hazelton will lead the company’s efforts to enhance delivery of comprehensive industry-focused insurance coverages, risk engineering and claims services to customers in all market segments.

Mr. Hazelton will continue to serve in his current role as Real Estate & Hospitality Industry Practice Leader and oversee the practice’s casualty profit and loss performance. He will continue to report to John Lupica, Vice Chairman, Chubb Group and President, North America.

BMS

BMS Group is pleased to announce a further expansion of their specialty energy practice with the senior industry hire of Alex Tesei as director of European energy reinsurance.

Tesei has over 25 years industry experience most recently spending a decade building up and leading the reinsurance division of Ribé Salat in Spain, specialising in facultative reinsurance. Most recently he was appointed head of facultative insurance at K.M.Dastur Ltd, in London and earlier in his career spent four years as managing director of Brex Re, based in Spain. Across all three roles, Tesei specialised in setting up and developing companies and departments, driving revenue growth, identifying niche market opportunities and spearheading territorial expansion into international markets.

His appointment is with effect from October 2022, and he will be based in London reporting into James Chicken, BMS’ managing director of energy.

SCOR

SCOR is pleased to announce the appointment of David Guest as Head of Crisis Management for SCOR UK and the SCOR Syndicate. His remit includes Terrorism and Political Violence and is effective 24 October 2022. Based in London, David will report to Marie Biggas, Chief Underwriting Officer of SCOR UK and Active Underwriter of the SCOR Syndicate.

David brings with him more than 26 years of industry experience, having led underwriting teams across the UK and Asia-Pacific (re)insurance markets. He joins SCOR from his most recent position as Global Specialty Regional Leader, APAC & Middle East at AXA XL.

Marie Biggas commented: “David has a highly diverse range of experience and technical capabilities, making him perfectly placed to head up our crisis management team. His understanding of the market, combined with his ability to build long-lasting relationships, will be a great asset to us and our clients.”

LIBERTY SPECIALTY

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance’s Global Risk Solutions division announces the promotion of Markus Hefel to the role of General Manager, LSM Switzerland, subject to regulatory approval.

Hefel is responsible for leading the Swiss team and LSM’s business in Switzerland to serve the needs of Swiss clients and brokers. Prior to his promotion He was Deputy General Manager, and Regional Manager for Accident & Health (A&H) and Underwriting Manager, Casualty.
