HSB

Specialist engineering and technology insurer, HSB has appointed Ian Fox as UK Head of Sales based at the company’s Manchester
office. Fox’s appointment forms part of HSB’s ongoing business growth strategy, reflecting the demand for the company’s marketleading solutions.

Reporting to Paul Kay, Director of Sales and Distribution, Ian will lead HSB’s UK team of Regional Development Managers and their Business Development teams across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. His key responsibilities will be to build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and grow HSB’s engineering insurance and inspection business portfolios.

Ian is an experienced leader having spent over 25 years in the general insurance market. Prior to joining HSB, Ian was Regional Development Manager at Ensurance UK focusing on the construction sector and was instrumental in the company’s regional growth in the UK.

ISIO

Isio has welcomed Steve Robinson as a partner into its Insurance and Risk Settlement team as it continues to develop its unique proposition in this market. Steve has previously held senior positions at Aviva and Scottish Widows where he worked to set up both bulk annuity businesses. He joins from his most recent role of Financial & Insurance Risk Director for Scottish Widows, the Lloyds Banking Group insurer.

He will work closely with head of insurance Nick Johnson and team on developing Isio’s existing offering, which focuses on removing inefficiencies in the risk transfer market.

SOMO

Specialist lending firm Somo Bridging is preparing for further growth in 2023 with the appointment of two new Senior Business Development Managers and a Sales Support Administrator.

The new Senior Business Development Managers, Nicola Hardy and Sarah Kirk, ran a specialist finance brokerage together for five years before joining Somo and bring with them decades of experience in the finance sector.  These appointments take the Sales team at Somo to 13 and the lender has further plans to appoint more in the new year.

Taybah Riaz also joins the 36-strong team at Somo as a Sales Support Administrator, reporting to and assisting Somo’s Sales Director, Jade Keval. Having worked in administration and support for over four years, Taybah will provide valuable assistance to Jade and the wider sales team as they seek to surpass their growth targets in 2023.

HISCOX BROKER

Specialist insurer Hiscox has announced the appointment of James Stewart-Smith to Broker Sales Director – a newly created role within the broker arm of its UK business. James will take up the role with immediate effect and be responsible for managing all seven regional branches. The announcement follows a number of significant appointments  – Trish White has been  appointed to Strategic Accounts Director and Dave Smith to Head of Schemes, as the business focuses on delivering greater value and support for brokers.

Commenting on the appointments, Jodi Cartwright, Distribution Director at Hiscox UK said: “This is an evolution in the structure of our broker business that will deliver more focus and consistency in the way we deal and trade with our broker partners.

LLOYD’S

Lloyd’s, the world’s leading marketplace for commercial, corporate and specialty risk solutions, today welcomes Richard Dudley to the Council of Lloyd’s.

Richard Dudley, Global Head of Climate Strategy at Aon, has been working in the Lloyd’s market for nearly thirty years and currently sits on Lloyd’s Technology & Transformation Advisory Panel. He is also an Executive Action Committee member on the Insurance Taskforce of the Sustainable Markets Initiative. Prior to taking up the role as Head of Climate Strategy, Richard was CEO of Aon’s Global Broking Centre and CEO of the UK and Ireland Specialties division of Aon Reinsurance.

UKG

UK General Insurance (UKG) and Precision Partnership (PPL), the Leeds-based niche and specialist product MGA’s, have appointed Gill Anderson as Group Trading Director. Anderson, who joined the PPL business in 2018 as Sales Director, will report to CEO Tim Smyth, in a newly formed Group-wide role encompassing the UKG, One Commercial, Binnacle Insurance and Provego Underwriting brands.

The appointment follows the change of ownership of UKG and PPL as part of a joint acquisition concluded in October.

HAKLUYT

HAMPDEN GROUP

Hampden Group announces the retirement of Neil Smith as CEO of Hampden Agencies. After 14 years of successfully steering the largest Members’ Agency at Lloyd’s, Smith will retire from his role at the end of January 2023. Under his leadership the business has more than doubled its capacity under advice and provided clients with a consistently outperforming-Lloyd’s underwriting return.

The CEO role will (subject to regulatory approval) be taken up by Alistair Wood, currently a director of Hampden Agencies and head of research. Wood has, for a number of years, successfully led Hampden’s highly respected and skilled Lloyd’s syndicate research team. The Hampden research capability is an important part of Hampden’s overall delivery of market-outperforming advice to clients and his knowledge and experience are suited for this new challenge.

The chair of Hampden Agencies, Sarah Wilton, said: ”Neil’s contribution both to the Hampden Agencies business and to private capital in the Lloyd’s market has been hugely important and we wish him well in his retirement. Alistair represents the next generation of leadership and I wholeheartedly endorse this appointment.”

WILLIS TOWERS WATSON

WTW (NASDAQ: WTW) has announced the appointment of Derric Howard to the company’s Insurance Consulting and Technology (ICT) business. In his new role as EMEA Head of Commercial Lines Transformation, ICT, Howard will be based in London and work with European insurance firms, brokers and other market players to transform, modernise and digitise the underwriting function.

Howard comes to WTW from Zurich Insurance, where he spent nearly 20 years working in underwriting roles across the United States, Middle East, European and UK markets.  Most recently, he worked in Zurich’s Commercial Insurance business, executing its strategy to develop business globally with Managing General Agents.

Also WTW has grown its Direct and Facultative team in London with the hire of Sam Berry as new Claims Advocate. Berry has 20 years’ experience handling North American property and casualty claims and joins WTW from BMS, after 10 years of service. Prior to that, Sam spent a decade holding positions at JLT and RKHarrison.

CHUBB

Michael Mollica has been named Division President for Chubb’s North America Financial Lines business

Chubb has named Michael Mollica Division President for the company’s North America Financial Lines businesses. Currently, Mollica is Executive Vice President, Head of Private/Not-For-Profit business for the division. In his new role, he will have executive oversight of Chubb’s management and professional liability lines of business, which span public, private, not-for-profit, and financial institutions directors and officers coverages, transactional risk, as well as its errors and omissions and cyber products. In addition, he will have responsibility for the division’s strategy, product and business development, underwriting operations and profit and loss performance.
