Insurance Sector Job Moves and Senior Hires 19.06.23

It’s time once again to round up the latest job moves across the sector, here goes;

ASTON LARK

Leading insurance broker Aston Lark, a Howden company, is building its team in Wales with a key new hire, as it looks to cement its place within the region. Catherine Robinson, from Neath, has joined Aston Lark as an Account Executive, and will play a key role in growing the company’s client base within South Wales.

Catherine has over 25 years of experience in the industry, spending her career so far at Keen Insurance, where she held the position of Director and Commercial Insurance Broker. Catherine will be responsible for building and managing Aston Lark’s growing commercial client portfolio and will work closely with the firm’s Regional Director Gary Stevens.

VIPR

VIPR Solutions (‘VIPR’), a well-respected technology solutions provider in the global delegated underwriting sector, is delighted to confirm that David Butler has joined the executive team as the new Client Services Director, directly reporting to CEO, Paul Templar.

Prior to joining VIPR, Butler held significant roles in companies such as Moore Stephens, where he served as Head of Delivery and as a key player during the Verisk integration activity. His rich experience in project, programme, and portfolio delivery, and strategic management, have earned him a strong reputation in the industry.

Based in London, Butler is distinguished for his outstanding ability to optimise organisations’ profitability through the development of their people, processes, and technology. Furthermore, recently Butler has focused his skills in software delivery, through various leadership roles.

SWISS RE CORPORATE

As of September 1, Mr. Gasco will be responsible for leading Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ Canada business. In this role, he will drive strategic direction and continue to build Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ presence in the Canadian market. Based out of Toronto, he will join the North America Regional Management Team and continue to serve as a member of the Canada Management Team for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. Mr. Gasco will report to Katie McGrath, CEO North America, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

With 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, Mr. Gasco most recently held the position of Head Property & Specialty Canada, leading the team across General Property, Energy and Engineering and Construction lines. Over the past three years, he was instrumental in expanding Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ presence across Canada, delivering significant growth and profitability. Mr. Gasco recently joined the Branch Management Committee for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions America Insurance Corporation – Canadian Branch. Earlier in his career, he was a Senior Underwriter at Temple Insurance (Munich Re) and a Senior Broker with Aon Reed Stenhouse.

BLACK DICE

BlackDice, a fast-growing Leeds (UK) and Malaga (Spain) based cybersecurity start-up, has appointed Mark O’Neill as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). O’Neill brings a wealth of experience and expertise to BlackDice, further strengthening the company’s position as a key player to watch in the competitive cybersecurity market.With an extensive career in cybersecurity, most recently as Senior Security Advisor at DXC Technology and eight years at Hewlett Packard, where O’Neill served as the Client Security Officer for a multinational oil and gas client, he has played a pivotal role in both companies’ security strategy. Now joining BlackDice, O’Neill will lead the company’s technological vision, spearheading innovation and driving transformative growth across all aspects of the company.As the CTO, O’Neill will be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of BlackDice’s technology roadmap. His extensive knowledge in security, software development, and IT infrastructure will play a crucial role in enhancing the company’s existing offerings, as well as developing new customer-centric solutions, focused on the company’s vision to ‘keep people safe online’.

EQUINOX REINSURANCE

Equinox Reinsurance Intermediaries (ERI), affiliated with Inver Re and part of the wider Ardonagh Group, has made two appointments of Managing Director. Jeremy Brasier has been promoted to the position after joining ERI three years ago, while Jeff Irvan has been hired into the position.

Jeff will be based in South Carolina and Jeremy in London as the duo will continue to build out ERI’s specialist reinsurance capability. Jeff brings a property capability across the USA and Canada to complement the existing portfolio of long tail business. Jeff brings with him a breadth of experience from a career spanning 25 years, having formerly been Chief Property Officer at BMS Group, and Executive Vice President at Willis Re in Atlanta.

Jeremy was instrumental in the formation of ERI from its inception and has helped to create a substantial portfolio of Specialty business.

HOWDEN 

Howden, the international insurance broker, announces that it has strengthened its marine offering in Europe with the acquisition of Bremen-based broker Northern Lloyd, one of the leading marine brokers in Northern Germany.

The acquisition of Northern Lloyd reinforces Howden’s strategy to become the market leader for marine business in Germany. By constructing a team with local, specialist expertise, Howden Deutschland is well-placed to capitalise on growth opportunities in the German marine market and will benefit from the collective power of Howden’s global footprint.

Northern Lloyd is an independent marine insurance broker providing ship owners, ships and asset managers with consulting and risks analysis and placement and claims handling services. Northern Lloyd is a licensed Lloyd’s broker with operations in key territories including London, Athens, Limassol and Abu Dhabi.

GUY CARPENTER

Global reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter has strengthened its cyber reinsurance team and promoted Zain Awan to the newly created role of International Cyber ILS Lead. The company said that Awan will be tasked with further strengthening Guy Carpenter’s analytical and transactional capabilities to support the growth of the cyber insurance-linked securities (ILS) sector.

In addition, Awan will work closely with the investment banking and ILS focused arm of the reinsurance broker GC Securities, partnering to structure and deliver cyber insurance-linked securities transactions.

BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) today announced that Gabriel Poppie has joined the company as Head of Customer & Broker Engagement for the U.S. Central Region.

“Building high value and enduring relationships is paramount to all we do,” said Lori Spoon, Head of Customer & Broker Engagement, BHSI. Gabe is a terrific addition to the team, joining us with strong market experience. His relationships with risk management professionals and brokers will be an asset in support of our regional growth strategy. We’re excited to have Gabe on board.
Gabe comes to BHSI with more than 20 years of insurance industry experience. Throughout his career he has held sales leadership,
distribution and customer relationship roles at both major global brokers and insurance carriers.
