Defaqto has announced the Financial Times’ Claer Barrett and behavioural expert Thimon de Jong will be the leading keynote speakers for its ‘Smarter Financial Decisions’ conference, which will be held in London on Thursday 7 September 2023.
The annual conference is already well established in the insurance industry calendar for its presentations and discussions on Defaqto Star Ratings. Now for the first time, these sessions will be supplemented with speakers, presentations and Q&A sessions from thought leaders who have a perspective on the key themes of data, technology, consumer insight and the advancement of financial services in the UK.
Consumer editor at the Financial Times and host of the FTs money clinic podcast, Claer Barrett will open the day alongside Defaqto’s CEO, John Milliken, and discuss the current consumer personal finance landscape and Thimon de Jong, will close the day, future-gazing on where financial services could be in ten years’ time.

A range of sessions for insurance providers will be available throughout the day including:
- A panel discussion on distribution, product and regulation from across General Insurance with Brian Brown, Head of Insight for GI and Banking at Defaqto, Branko Bjelobaba, consultant and specialist in FCA compliance, and Ceri McMillan, Savings MD at Go.Compare.
- The future of Finance – how we can radically adapt to the changing lives of Gen Z. A consumer-focused session including discussion around AI, consumer insights and finance for Gen Z.
- Presentations on the latest trends in the home, travel, motor and pet insurance markets.
Following the closing keynote speaker, there will be a drinks reception and an opportunity to catch up with industry colleagues.
