It’s time for the weekly job moves round-up, so let’s get into it;

DEVONSHIRE UNDERWRITING

Devonshire Underwriting, the Managing General Agent (“MGA”) specialising in underwriting transactional risk (“TR”) solutions, is pleased to announce it has appointed Sam Jeater as its new Underwriting Manager.

Sam joins as an experienced underwriting professional having worked in the industry for two years prior to joining Devonshire. Sam began his career as a Chartered Accountant with WMT Chartered Accountants, gaining his ACA qualification, before moving into the insurance industry in 2021 as an M&A Underwriter. His role will be mainly focused on enhancing Devonshire’s Warranties & Indemnities (W&I) product offering from a financial perspective, including product development and production management.

TL DALLAS

TL Dallas, has bolstered its London team with the appointment of two corporate account executives. Michael Jobson and Ross Bullard (above) are seasoned insurance professionals with 36 years combined industry experience and both are certified with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

Michael said: “After working across loss recovery, personal lines, commercial account handling and working with high net-worth clients for almost 18 years, I then became a specialist in the health and care sector, which faces unique challenges and has very individual requirements when it comes to insurance.”

Ross said: “I started out in the insurance industry 12 years ago in motor insurance, working for a broker in Southampton, before moving to another broker to specialise in insurance for parish and town councils. I spent eight years as an account executive in the local government sector at this firm, which was sold twice during that period.”

RUSSELL SCANLAN

Chartered insurance broker Russell Scanlan has appointed former Nottingham Insurance Institute (NII) President, Joanne Marriott, to its Board of Directors. Joanne will head up the commercial and small to medium enterprise (SME) operations of the business, as well as taking on responsibility for products governance and FCA compliance with the support from experienced Commercial Team Leader, Rob Wood.

Joanne joined Russell Scanlan in 2020, having built influence within the East Midlands insurance industry for more than 30 years. Having taken up roles as Dinner Secretary, Treasurer and Deputy President for the NII over the course of her career, Joanne was elected President in 2021, a position she held for two full terms.

She brings a wealth of experience to her new Director role, from managing teams across personal lines, small commercial insurance, as well as claims. Joanne’s professional and compassionate influence amongst the Russell Scanlan team positions her well in this leadership role.

HOWDEN

Howden, the global insurance intermediary group, today announces that Paul Hipson has stepped up into the newly created role of Head of London Broking for the Corporate & Commercial pillar within Howden UK & Ireland, effective from June 2024.

In his new role, Hipson will have overall responsibility for the existing London Broking team, which predominantly helps Howden UK & Ireland place property, casualty and motor business into the insurance market. This role forms part of Howden UK&I’s core growth plans, and Hipson will be tasked with growing the broking operation on a national scale, continuing to build relationships with insurer partners whilst enhancing the broking support for colleagues to the benefit of our clients.

This new position is in addition to Hipson’s existing responsibilities leading the London Corporate Existing Business team, which is reflected in his new title of Head of London Corporate and Broking. The news follows the announcement of Paul Hasib’s promotion to the role of Chief Placement Officer for the Corporate & Commercial pillar in April 2024. Hipson will report into Hasib and will work closely with the Placement team.

ROKSTONE

Rokstone, the International Speciality (Re)Insurance MGA and part of the Aventum Group, has announced that it has appointed underwriter Graham Amato to launch a new Global Sports Personal Accident portfolio. 

Rokstone’s global presence combined with Graham’s expertise in specialty personal accident , will deliver tailored solutions for high-net-worth sports professionals on an international scale, something other MGAs are currently unable to replicate.

Launching with A-rated capacity, Rokstone will deliver tailored, Lloyd’s-approved wordings for a range of sports including motorsport, golf, tennis, football, and other sports.  It is intended that all wordings will be able to cover the four key risks of accidental death, permanent total disablement, temporary total disablement, and medical expenses and repatriation, with some of the highest levels of cover found in the market both on a per accident and per individual basis. It is initially planned that coverage will be provided throughout the UK, Europe, and North America, with plans to quickly expand into Asia.

ALLIANZ COMMERCIAL

Allianz Commercial confirms a key appointment to its global leadership team taking effect immediately. Vanessa Maxwell is appointed Global Head of Cyber, in addition to her current role as Global Head of Financial Lines, reporting to Shanil Williams, Chief Underwriting Officer at Allianz Commercial. In this new dual role, Vanessa will lead both Cyber and Financial Lines as separate Lines of Business. This organizational structure reflects the strategic importance of both products to Allianz Commercial, as well as the connection between both Financial Lines and Cyber in the wider insurance market.

With over 20 years’ experience in Financial Lines and Cyber, Vanessa Maxwell joined Allianz Commercial as Global Head of Financial Lines just under two years ago from Berkshire Hathaway. During her time with Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, she was Country Manager and Head of Executive and Professional Lines both for the UK. Prior to that, and over her career, she also worked in increasingly senior roles at AIG and Lexington Insurance Company.

AVENTUM

 Aventum, the fast growing International (Re)Insurance Group, has announced the appointment of Jeff Uden as its new Head of Learning & Development.

Jeff brings with him more than 23 years’ HR expertise.  He joins Aventum from MS Amlin where he was Senior Talent & Development Manager.  Prior to that he was Head of Talent at Iceland and held strategic HR roles at Morrisons and Argos.  Jeff is a highly experienced learning and development leader with the expertise required to deliver an innovative approach to people success in a fast-growth environment.  Jeff will work collaboratively with the wider HR team across all aspects of Aventum’s holistic talent strategy including appraisals and engagement, growth and development, culture and performance, training academy and apprenticeships.

AMPHITRITE UNDERWRITING

Amphitrite Underwriting London (“Amphitrite”), the specialist marine MGA, today announced the appointment of Scott Sykes as Head of its newly formed Cargo Division, based in their London office.

Scott has more than 35 years’ experience in Lloyd’s and international markets.  He has spent the last 14 years in Singapore where he was most recently running Argenta Underwriting Pte Ltd at Lloyd’s Asia. Amphitrite has secured cargo capacity from Lloyd’s.

CANOPIUS

 Canopius Group, a leading global specialty and P&C (re)insurer, today announces the appointment of Chris Getty as Cyber and Technology Underwriter. Chris joins with immediate effect, strengthening Canopius’ extensive cyber and technology expertise, and will report directly to Mike Shen, Head of Cyber & Technology, London Market.

Chris brings over nine years of cyber insurance experience to Canopius. He joins from Talbot Underwriting where he served, most recently, as Head of Cyber and Technology, responsible for leading the London and New York underwriting teams. Chris began his career with Barlow Lyde & Gilbert LLP and is a qualified solicitor.

CII

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has announced the appointment of two new Board members; Dr Desmond Bermingham, Chair of the Education & Learning Committee (ELC), and Jon Graham, Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee (ARC).

Desmond and Jon join the CII Board for an initial three-year term, effective from 3 June 2024.

Dr Helen Phillips, CII Group Chair, said: “The CII Group Board warmly welcomes Desmond and Jon, who each bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their respective positions. We look forward to working alongside them both, as we continue in our pursuit of building public trust in the insurance and finacial planning professions.

ARGENTA

Argenta Holdings Limited announces the appointment of Niranjan Nathan as group chief risk officer (subject to regulatory approvals), assuming the role from Carol-Ann Burton, who will continue as group general counsel and compliance director. Based in London and reporting to Nick Moore, CEO of Argenta Holdings Limited and managing director of Argenta Syndicate Management Limited (“ASML”), Nathan will also join the board of ASML.

Nathan has more than 20 years of experience in the global insurance industry spanning risk, pricing, reserving, risk capital, strategy development, and transformation. Nathan joins from EY where he was a partner and the UK non-life actuarial practice leader. Before this, he spent more than a decade at Swiss Re, where his roles included head of actuarial pricing UK, director group corporate strategy and development, before becoming chief risk officer of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. Nathan will lead Argenta’s risk team and will oversee the actuarial function, working to ensure it maintains its robust risk framework, strong governance, and appropriate supervision and risk controls.
