Job Moves and Senior Appointments 24.06.2024

Another week zooms past, like a celeb trying to get a selfie with Taylor Swift. Time once more to cover the latest job moves and senior level appointments;

TOKIO MARINE

Tokio Marine HCC (TMHCC) – Specialty Group, a member of the Tokio Marine HCC group of companies, has announced the appointment of Shaun Russ as Head of London Market, Crisis Management, based in London. Shaun reports to Mark Hutton, who was appointed as Head of Crisis Management, International in May 2024.

Shaun brings over 15 years’ of London Market experience and joins TMHCC from Axa XL where he served as Senior Product Recall Underwriter. He has also held roles at Chubb Global Markets and Lockton Companies International.

In his previous role, Shaun was responsible for the growth of the Product Recall portfolio in London and its expansion into new territories, most notably Japan. He acted as a key point of contact for complex Product Recall risk, with a focus on contaminated products and non-food product lines including automotive component parts, and consumer goods.

ARCH

Arch Insurance has announced the appointment of Roberto Tous as Director of Strategy & Distribution for Europe, effective immediately.

Tous joins Arch Insurance (EU) dac (AIEU), which provides specialist property and casualty insurance solutions within the European Union. In this new role, he is responsible for working with Arch’s European underwriting teams to develop strategic broker relationships and strengthen the company’s distribution strategy. He will report to Søren Scheuer, CEO, Arch Insurance (EU) dac and will work closely with Simon Williams, Chief Strategy & Distribution Officer, Arch Insurance International.

Tous brings over 16 years of experience gained across the European insurance market to the position. He joins from Zurich Insurance, where he has held numerous leadership roles within the organisation, including Head of General Liability, Financial Lines and Cyber Risk in Benelux and Financial Lines EMEA Business Development Manager. Prior to this, Tous was a Financial Lines Underwriter at Chubb Insurance Europe.

BRACE UNDERWRITING

Brace Underwriting Limited (“Brace”), the Beat Capital-backed, multi-line and alternative risk specialist underwriter, announces the appointment of Michael Davis as Senior Underwriter. He is based in London and reports to Tom Sambrook, Head of Underwriting.

Davis, in collaboration with Sambrook, will be heavily involved in developing Brace’s underwriting strategy as well as managing client engagement and portfolio optimisation across all parts of the company’s portfolio. He will also use his extensive experience in the Canadian property and casualty market to expand this portion of Brace’s portfolio.

Davis brings more than 13 years of industry experience to Brace, having previously worked as a property underwriter at Tokio Marine Kiln (“TMK”). He joined TMK as a graduate trainee in 2010, later being promoted to property claim adjuster in 2012 and moving to the underwriting side of the business in 2015.

CANOPIUS

Canopius, a leading global specialty and P&C (re)insurer, announced it has appointed Mark Houghton to the newly created role of Global Product Leader, Specialty. He takes up the position in October and will oversee the governance, performance and standards of Canopius’ specialty underwriting lines across the business.

Mark will also be responsible for product development and innovation as well as establishing Canopius’ risk appetite for specialty lines across the globe. He will report directly to Group Chief Underwriting Officer Sam Harrison.

Mark brings unparalleled expertise to the role, with over 20 years’ insurance and wider financial services experience. He joins Canopius from AXA XL, where he led the Political Risk team for over a decade before being appointed Head of Specialty in Asia.

BMS

BMS Group, the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, has appointed Ali Trauttmansdorff as Group chief people officer, effective immediately. Trauttmansdorff, who will be based in London, will report to Nick Cook, BMS Group CEO, and join BMS’s executive committee.

Trauttmansdorff brings vast global experience to BMS, in particular in the US, having served as chief human resources officer of a US publicly listed global wealth and alternatives manager, as well as holding senior and global HR positions at Goldman Sachs and Rothschild & Co. In her role she will be focused on supporting the Group’s M&A ambitions by ensuring that BMS has robust onboarding, integration and talent management processes as it brings new colleagues into the business. Additionally, Trauttmansdorff will lead the attraction of new talent and its development, enhancing wellbeing and reward strategies, and will focus heavily on DE&I. BMS’s focus on culture and belonging fostering diversity of thought and providing high quality employee experiences and advancement will be a key feature of her work.

IFoA

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries is delighted to announce the appointment of Mike McDougall as Director of Learning. Mike brings a wealth of experience to the IFoA’s Executive Leadership team both as a qualified actuary and as a business leader with a proven track record in strategic and operational change.

Mike qualified through the Faculty of Actuaries in 1992 after which he held positions at Southern Life, Momentum and Metropolitan Life. Since 2013, Mike has been Chief Executive Officer at the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA). The IFoA and ASSA have a close working relationship, with ASSA having benefited significantly over the years from the IFoA’s education and, more recently the IFoA has adopted ASSA’s banking specialist exams. Mike’s appointment at the IFoA will facilitate even greater cooperation between the two professional bodies.

AMPHITRITE

Amphitrite Underwriting London (“Amphitrite”), the specialist marine MGA, has announced the appointment of Scott Sykes as Head of its newly formed Cargo Division, based in their London office.

Scott has more than 35 years’ experience in Lloyd’s and international markets.  He has spent the last 14 years in Singapore where he was most recently running Argenta Underwriting Pte Ltd at Lloyd’s Asia. Amphitrite has secured cargo capacity from Lloyd’s.

Welcoming Scott to the team, Amphitrite CEO Konstantinos Tampakakis said: “This is a pivotal moment for us as we expand our specialist marine offering to include cargo business.  Scott is a prominent figure in the cargo market and another high calibre addition to our team – his extensive experience and unique profile make him the perfect leader to drive the growth and success of our newly formed cargo division.  I am extremely excited about the prospects for our new business and I am confident that we will further expand our exceptional service to brokers and clients within the cargo market.  We all extend a very warm welcome to Scott as he embarks on this journey with us.”
