Job Moves and Senior Appointments Round Up 06.08.2024

It’s time to catch up with the latest insurance industry senior appointments;

FORBES SINGAPORE

Julian Coates has been appointed Chief Broking Officer for Price Forbes Singapore as the specialty broker seeks to build-out and further grow the business. Coates joins from Marsh-owned Honan Asia, where he was CEO and Executive Director for the business. In his new role he will be responsible for developing Price Forbes broking strategy in AsiaPac, setting the agenda for broking excellence across the business and support the overall business growth agenda.

OBRA CAPITAL

 Obra Capital, Inc. (“Obra”), an asset management firm with a specialized approach to alternative investing, today announced that Vlad Sorokulov has been appointed Managing Director, Portfolio Management and Pricing. In this role, Mr. Sorokulov will be responsible for supporting the investment team across Obra’s portfolio of both life settlements and life insurance. Sorokulov will be based in New York and report to Blair Wallace.

Prior to joining Obra, Mr. Sorokulov served as a Principal at Jade Mountain Partners where he oversaw the valuation process of portfolios exceeding $1 billion in assets under management. Previously, Mr. Sorokulov served as an Independent Advisor, where he managed life settlement portfolios with over $11 billion in death benefits, and he previously worked for an advisory firm , where he was responsible for ongoing pricing and servicing of over $1 billion of life settlements. 

ARCH

Arch Insurance International (Arch) has today announced the promotion of Marie Penberthy to the position of Chief Financial Officer, subject to regulatory approval.

As CFO, Penberthy will be responsible for the finance function, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, and reporting. Based in London, she will report to Hugh Sturgess, President and Chief Executive Officer of Arch Insurance International.

Penberthy joined Arch Insurance (UK) Ltd in 2022 as a Financial Controller before becoming CFO of the UK operations in December 2023. Previously, she was Corporate Financial Controller at Talbot Underwriting, and during her 22-year career has held several senior financial roles exclusively in the insurance industry.

LOCKTON

 Lockton, the world’s largest independent insurance brokerage, has appointed Sung Wook Han as Regional Head of Marine for Asia as of 1st August.

Prior to joining Lockton, Sung held the position of Head of International Hull, GB Marine with Willis Towers Watson in London. During his impressive 15-year tenure with WTW, he was instrumental in significantly increasing their Marine profile and revenues.

His accomplishments include driving new business development and strategic investment hires, even during the challenging COVID-19 period. Sung led various aspects of insurance, including Hull & Machinery, War, Builders’ Risks, and other shipping-related risks for clients worldwide, with a focus on regions outside of Europe. He collaborated closely with local WTW offices and third-party partners to provide exceptional service to clients.

Sung holds a graduate diploma in Law from the BPP University in London, UK. Additionally, he has a B.S. in Business Administration (Finance) and a B.A. in International Studies (Economics) from the University of North Carolina, USA.

MAPFRE

Global insurer MAPFRE announces the appointment of Leire Jiménez as the new Group Chief Innovation Officer wef 1 September, a position she will hold concurrently with her current role as CEO of MAWDY, the company’s assistance business unit.

Six years after its founding, MAPFRE Open Innovation is embarking on a new phase to continue enhancing business development and decision-making, as well as to ensure MAPFRE adds value to its customers by anticipating market trends and needs. Leire Jiménez, with 20 years of experience in the industry, will now lead this phase, having developed her career at both the national and international levels in markets such as the UK, France and Asia, holding different positions of responsibility at MAPFRE. She has been CEO of MAWDY since 2019.

She holds a Degree in Business Administration and Humanities from Deusto University (Spain), and has a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Flinders University (Australia). In addition to her strategic and managerial capacity, she has extensive knowledge of the insurance market and is a firm advocate of the power of innovation as a fundamental pillar for business growth
