Mosaic Adds 13 Risk Specialists To Its US Teams

The latest from Mosaic, who have added 13 leading US environmental risk specialists to its team across the Americas.

The expansion marks the next stage of rapid growth for Mosaic’s Environmental Liability division which the company launched as its seventh line of business less than two years ago. Specialists are now located across the US—in New York, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boulder, CO, and New Orleans. They join an existing team of seven US and international environmental risk experts based in London, Toronto and Philadelphia who have already established a strong market presence in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Central America, and Europe.

“We’re thrilled to welcome this talented group of market-leading peers to our dynamic team,” said Jim Finnamore, Mosaic’s Global Head of Environmental Liability. “This accelerates our scale-up in the US, Canada, and wider Americas, and paves the way for immediate, broad market engagement across the region at a time when it’s most needed. There’s a lot of flux in the market—and fewer carriers offering the technical proficiency and flexibility needed to address the rise in complex environmental risks and emerging pollution issues.”

The team buildout follows Mosaic’s move to landmark New York City premises on 42nd Street earlier this year and its hiring in July of prominent specialty market executive Toby Smith as its new Americas CEO.

“The US is the largest, most dominant environmental liability market globally and it’s vital to our strategic growth plan at Mosaic,” said Smith, who previously worked with Mosaic’s leadership at Ironshore Inc back in 2009, when they launched its environmental business. “We believe this buildout brings great opportunity to diversify our book of business and further expand our product suite.”

The newly-hired team includes senior specialists with deep experience handling risks across broad segments of the markut, including energy, manufacturing, chemical, real estate, municipal, transactional and development exposures—as well as creating innovative solutions for emerging markets like energy transition, with product expertise in areas such as carbon sequestration exposures and tax liabilities. Mosaic also plans to launch a combined general liability and pollution policy later this year.

Team members comprise: AVP, Iraj Dehnavi; SVP, Maureen Domenicone; VP, Patrick Enderlin; SVP, Patrick Grassl; SVP, Max Horn; SVP, Noelle MacDonald; SVP, Karen Reilly; SVP, Rob Stedman; VP, Melissa Sweeney; AVP, Sophia Terzulli; SVP, Dan Weber; and VP, Vesta Zavistauskaite.

Notably, claims specialist Thomas Duggan also joins the company as Head of Environmental Claims.

“Claims integration with underwriting is an integral part of our ethos and business practice,” noted Finnamore. “Together, our team, like all divisions at Mosaic, will continue to operate as one global entity delivering cross-border solutions to our valued broker partners and clients.”

Mosaic underwrites across seven product lines selected for high technical barriers to entry and relevance to current and projected geopolitical and economic conditions: cyber, transactional liability, environmental liability, political risk, political violence, financial institutions, and professional liability. The company’s agency model combines capacity from its Lloyd’s syndicate, 1609, with capital from carrier partners seeking regional access and deep expertise in non-commoditized lines.
