Job Moves and Senior Appointments 23.09.2024

It’s time for the weekly job moves news across the sector, so let’s get into it;

AMPHITRATE

Amphitrite Underwriting London (“Amphitrite”), the leading specialist marine MGA, today announced the appointment of Fadi Faysal as Cargo Underwriter. Working alongside Scott Sykes, Head of Cargo, Faysal brings over 15 years of invaluable international experience spanning both cargo insurance broking and underwriting sectors with an additional strong emphasis on the Middle Eastern region.

Welcoming Faysal to the Amphitrite team, Sykes stated: “We are thrilled to have Fadi on board. His distinctive dual business perspective — rooted in a deep understanding of both client requirements and insurer priorities — allows him to expertly navigate the complexities of the cargo insurance landscape. TOKIO MARINE HCC

Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI), a member of the Tokio Marine HCC (TMHCC) group of companies based in Houston, Texas,  announces the appointment of Victoria Fox as Marine Special Risks Senior Underwriter. She takes up her role with immediate effect and will report to Paul Knighton, Head of Marine Special Risks.

TMHCCI launched the Marine Special Risks team in February 2024, with Paul Knighton spearheading the offering. Marine Special Risks combines the existing Logistics, Marine Trades, and Marine Property portfolios under Paul’s leadership with the continued support of Sarah Cracroft and William Meyer to enhance risk insights and develop a more strategic proposition for the market.

Victoria brings over a decade of marine insurance experience to the new team. She joins from Howden, where she led the development of its inhouse marine trade product. Prior to this, she served as an underwriter in IGI’s London marine team and has also held roles at MS Amlin and AJ Gallagher.

MISSION UNDERWRITERS

Mission Underwriters (Mission), which builds MGAs around talented and experienced underwriters, has appointed Neil McSherry to the new role of Head of Country for Ireland. Leveraging Mission’s innovative MGA model, Neil will guide these aspiring entrepreneurs through the process of launching their MGAs in weeks.

Adrian Morgan, CEO of Mission Underwriters, said: “We are thrilled to have Neil on board. I am confident that with Neil’s experience of establishing and running his own MGA in the Irish market, we will continue to deliver specialist, innovative insurance products to a wider range of clients in Ireland and throughout the EEA.”

LMA

The London Market Group has added Tracy Lee Kus, Head of Aon’s London-based Global Broking Centre to its board as a representative of London & International Insurance Brokers’ Association (LIIBA). Kus was appointed to lead Aon’s Global Broking Centre earlier this month after 13 years in other roles at the business, latterly in leadership positions in Singapore. She has previously worked for Novae, Axis, Antares South Africa and AIG.

Sean McGovern, CEO of AXA XL UK and Chair of the London Market Group, said: “Tracy Lee’s global experience in insurance will add an invaluable voice to the London Market Group board as we navigate London’s position in an increasingly competitive global insurance landscape.”

SUCDEN FINANCIAL

Sucden Financial, the multi-asset execution, clearing and liquidity provider, has appointed Bruno Almeida to the newly created role of Director of Regulatory and Financial Risks.

Bruno is a highly experienced executive with nearly two decades of experience in financial services, specialising in financial risks and regulation. He joins Sucden Financial as an Executive Director (subject to regulatory approval) and will serve as a member of its Executive Committee. Bruno will be responsible for managing the company’s exchange relationships, capital and liquidity risks.

Prior to joining Sucden Financial, Bruno held the position of Chief Financial Officer UKMEA for FNZ Group. He also served as Executive Director and Board member of FNZ Securities Ltd. Before joining FNZ, Bruno spent almost four years at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as a Lead Associate in the Prudential Specialists Department, where he assessed risk management practices, governance frameworks, capital and liquidity risk within firms prudentially regulated by the FCA.

SUN LIFE

 Sun Life has announced the appointment of Randy Lianggara as President, Emerging Markets, Asia, effective 1 November.

In this newly created role, Randy will help to drive growth across Sun Life’s businesses in the fast-growing emerging markets of Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia as well as oversee Sun Life’s joint venture with China Everbright Group in mainland China.

Randy will join Sun Life’s Asia Executive Team and report to Manjit Singh, President Sun Life Asia.

Randy joins Sun Life from Aviva where he most recently held roles as Regional CEO, Asia, and Regional CEO, China, Indonesia and Vietnam. Prior to that he spent a decade as CEO of AXA Indonesia.

PRICE FORBES

Price Forbes Re has appointed Fred Few Brown and Jonathan Gerken as it scales up its facultative team across all product lines. Few Brown, who is based in London, joins the team from Howden Re and will be responsible for property fac, reporting to Head of Facultative, Nikki Melbourne.

Melbourne commented: “Fred’s appointment is a pivotal moment for fac at Price Forbes Re.   We’ve worked hard to build a platform that great people want to be part of and I am delighted to see the reaction to Fred joining and how he is helping make Property Fac at Prices Forbes Re a standout offering.”

Few Brown added: “I couldn’t resist the opportunity to join a team which is at a ‘once in a career’ stage of growth. I can’t wait to get stuck in and support the team to grow.”

Few Brown is joined on the Fac team by broker Jonathan Gerken who will focus on Terrorism and Political Violence Facultative Reinsurance – worldwide. Based in London Gerken reports to Richard Penrose, Head of Political Violence & Terrorism at Price Forbes Re. He has held terrorism and political violence broking roles at Guy Carpenter, JLT Re and K.M. Dastur. 

QBE

QBE has nominated Mario Díaz-Guardamino as the next Managing Director for QBE Iberia, pending regulatory approval.   

Mario has more than 20 years’ experience working in financial services, having started in insurance as a broker before progressing to credit lines underwriting at AIG Spain, and then becoming Head of EMEA Trade Credit Insurance. He brings a wealth of experience across specialty underwriting, business development, broker and customer distribution strategy. 

The new General Manager will lead the team to deliver QBE’s plans for Spain across the offices in Madrid and Barcelona. He will concentrate on profitable growth by driving expertise, service delivery and strong relationships with brokers and customers. Focus points will include the Corporate and Middle Market business, multinational programmes, construction, and sustainable energies.   

GALLAGHER BASSETT

Gallagher Bassett, the UK’s leading claims and risk management provider, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ravinder Johal as Head of Litigation to its In-House Law Firm, Strata Solicitors. Ravinder adds further expertise to our litigation offering and will spearhead the growth of the  litigation team whilst driving client satisfaction.

When asked about his decision to accept the role, Ravinder said,

“I am proud to accept the role of Head of Litigation as it is an exciting time to be joining Gallagher Bassett. The Strata team is continuing to grow with new and existing clients, and a diverse range of expertise across the team.”

Ravinder brings over 17 years of experience working within the insurance industry, encompassing a wide range of complexities, from road traffic accidents to multi-million-pound fire damage and brain injury claims.

MAXIS GBN

MAXIS Global Benefits Network (MAXIS GBN), has announced the appointment of Nicola Fordham as Chief Solutions Officer. Nicola moves on from her role as Chief Underwriting Officer at MAXIS GBN to create a new function within the business. She will now oversee the evolution and development of MAXIS GBN’s offering – including insurance solutions and global programmes – to ensure they continue to address new challenges in the market and fit the needs of its multinational clients.
Nicola has more than 20 years’ experience as a pricing underwriter and joined MAXIS GBN in 2017 as Director of Underwriting. Since 2021, she has been the Chief Underwriting Officer, leading a team of pricing underwriters who work closely with its network of local insurers, EU Underwriting Hub and multinational clients. With this move, MAXIS GBN will be appointing a new Chief Underwriting Officer.
ALPS

Alps, a leading provider of insurance add-on policies, legal expenses, and claims solutions for intermediaries, has appointed Laura Mountford as its new Head of Sales and Marketing. The appointment is a crucial investment as Alps seeks to build on growth to date and strengthen its commitment to developing mutually beneficial long-term relationships with broker partners.

Laura joins Alps from one of the UK’s leading specialist motor insurance brokers, where she held the position of Sales Team Lead.  Laura has six years’ insurance industry experience, having made a bold career move from the NHS in 2018.  Passionate about the industry, Laura has been on a rapid career development trajectory achieving Cert CII status, whilst leading a busy sales team.  Laura brings a solid understanding of broker needs.  In her new role she will lead the effective execution of a strategy that not only meets growth targets, but also maintains focus on delivering superior broker experiences.
