Chartered insurance broker Russell Scanlan has relocated from its long-term home at Wellington Circus to Grove House in West Bridgford – the first time in the firm’s 143-year history it will operate outside Nottingham’s City Centre.
It comes after the broker has experienced a period of prolonged growth, had been acquired by global insurance business, Acrisure and had itself acquired a specialist insurance firm in Leicester.
Mike Dickinson, Managing Director of Russell Scanlan, said: “The business has continued to experience a significant period of growth which, coupled with our partnership with Acrisure UK and recent acquisition of specialist firm Building & Land Guarantees Ltd (BLG), means that this is a great time for us to begin a new chapter in our new West Bridgford home.
“It’s certainly bittersweet for us – we have a long and illustrious history at Wellington Circus, neighbours to our client and business partners at the Nottingham Playhouse. But we’re looking forward to the next step in our history, where we can expand our business, our team and our partnerships in a new space designed around our needs.”
Russell Scanlan has been a prominent business within Nottingham city centre since 1881, when Irishman Partick Scanlan founded the firm. Partnering with local businessman Henry Russell in the early 1900s, the firm has played a vital role in the development of corporations across the East Midlands.
Records at the company suggest that early clients included Nottingham-founded Boots the Chemists, and landmark venue and home to Nottingham Cricket Club, Trent Bridge signed up as a client a mere 40 years ago – a business relationship which persists to this day.
Russell Scanlan, which became a part of Acrisure UK Retail in June 2022, is widely recognised in the insurance sector for its reputation for quality and client service. The firm offers bespoke insurance solutions for businesses across multiple sectors and for all sizes – from startups to global enterprises. As part of its growth strategy, Russell Scanlan acquired Leicester’s BLG in March 2024, and Directors Mike Dickinson and Matt Franklin were appointed to BLG’s Board.
The business, now located at Grove House, Bridgford Road, West Bridgford, NG2 6AP, holds chartered status from the Chartered Insurance Institute – one of only a handful of brokers in the East Midlands to hold this accreditation.
