Shepherds Friendly, the mutual that has been serving its members for nearly 200 years, has been awarded the Clear & Simple Mark from Fairer Finance for a range of its Stocks & Shares ISA documents.
The certification is only given to documents that excel in clarity across three areas: plain language, easy-to-read design, and well-organised content that answers key consumer questions. Shepherds Friendly joins less than 20 organisations that have achieved this gold standard.
A 2024 Remitly Global, Inc survey of 2000 adults in the UK found 65% of adults have struggled to understand terms and acronyms used in financial documents, with 36% of these claiming it has cost them £1,366. A 2023 survey by Ipsos UK on behalf of Aviva also found seven in ten UK adults feel puzzled by financial jargon.
Highlighting the Society’s commitment to helping members make informed decisions about their finances, this new recognition follows Shepherds Friendly’s recent success in winning ‘ISA Provider of the Year’ at the MoneyAge Awards 2024. The judges awarded Shepherds Friendly for its ability to listen to its members, after the mutual changed how it issues bonuses to allow members to gain their investment growth quarterly rather than annually.
Graham Drummond, Head of Communications, Shepherds Friendly said:
“We’re delighted to receive this recognition from Fairer Finance. The Clear & Simple Mark underscores our commitment to providing our members with plans that are easy to understand and free of unnecessary complexity.
“Since 1826 we’ve focused on putting them first, and we think it’s important everyone feels confident with their investment choice. Alongside our recent ISA of the Year award, our members know we’re making meaningful changes that help them make the best financial decisions.”
