The word from Barnett Waddingham;
Now in its third year, the event continues to gain momentum, having significantly expanded in scale and stature since its inception – becoming a firm fixture in the pensions calendar and a welcome event to encourage discussion on key issues facing the pensions industry.
This year’s walk, held on June 5, welcomed nearly sixty participants, a cross-industry mix of trustees, consultants, providers, policymakers, media and BW’s new colleagues from Howden, who joined together to traverse a 17km route, starting in Henley On Thames and heading into the Chiltern Hills.
The day offered more than just fresh air. Wide-ranging conversations covered topics such as the evolving shape of Defined Benefit (DB) funding, the new Pensions Schemes Bill, the impact of politics at home and abroad, of AI in financial services, strategies for improving member engagement and more.
With no presentations or formalities, the Walk & Talk delivered a refreshing break from traditional industry events in a unique setting – encouraging fresh thinking and collaborative discussion in an informal, relaxed environment.
The event was preceded by a welcome BBQ at The Relais Henley and rounded off with a celebratory lunch and at Oaken Grove Vineyard which provided further opportunities for connection across disciplines and organisations.
Paul Leandro, Partner at Barnett Waddingham and organiser of the event, said: “I’m so pleased the Walk & Talk has grown into something meaningful for our industry. Now firmly established in the pensions calendar, it offers an opportunity for genuine, cross-industry collaboration whilst doing something completely different from the day to day. It’s brilliant to see such strong interest, and with the event almost doubling in size, I’m already looking forward to next year.
“To continue expanding the Walk & Talk initiative, we want to build on this momentum and broaden its reach, providing the industry with a space to strengthen connections, spark new ideas, and foster a more open dialogue around the issues that matter most.”
