Yes There’s a New Hipster EV in Town, And It’s a Dacia

The word from Dacia/Renault as they attempt to reinvent the urban hipster EV vehicle with this concept. Lightweight, two charges per week ( one would be better) and a body shape remarkably similar to those cute Japanese minivans that are very popular in Asia. Here’s the word;

The Dacia teams started with the real needs of users and how they use their cars in real life. In short, they focused on the essentials.

Dacia Hipster Concept is a companion for everyday life: agile, practical and economical.

“Dacia Hipster Concept, it has everything you could want in an everyday vehicle, measuring just 3 metres long, 1.53 metres high and 1.55 metres wide: four proper seats and a boot that can be adjusted from 70 to 500 litres.”

Stéphanie Chiron, Dacia Advanced Product Manager

Record-breaking features: Dacia Hipster Concept offers genuine capacity in an ultra-compact format, a unique proposition that does not currently exist on the market.

Dacia Hipster Concept takes Dacia’s weight-driven approach even further. It is 20% lighter than Spring. This performance is the result of Dacia’s overall eco-smart approach: less weight means less raw materials and less energy used in manufacturing. It also means less mass to move, so less energy is consumed. The ambition behind the Dacia Hipster Concept is to halve the carbon footprint over the entire life cycle of the vehicle, compared with the best electric vehicles currently available.

 It is designed for everyday life, offering sufficient range for daily journeys with two recharges per week. Here too, the Dacia Hipster Concept meets the real needs of customers. For example, in France, 94% of motorists travel less than 40 km per day.

With Spring, Dacia is the first manufacturer to have made electric mobility affordable. With Dacia Hipster Concept, Dacia wants to go even further by targeting a wide audience that currently cannot find anything to suit their budget. The average price of new vehicles in Europe rose by 77% between 2010 and 2024, far outpacing household purchasing power.

IE Note; This is important to note, some EV BMW family SUVs now start at £100,000. That’s without any subscription extras, accessories, leather-ish trim etc. These cars are for the elites in the Hunger Games, not working people on 40K a year. That has to change and hats off to Dacia for giving it a go. Otherwise the choices are all Chinese below 30K new.

YOU CLIP DESIGN

That said Dacia are asking buyers to supply their own accessories or interior feature like cup holders, radio or phone mounts etc.

Connectivity and digital technology are now essential features, helping to simplify and streamline everyday vehicle use, particularly with the smartphone docking station, which remains faithful to Dacia’s BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) philosophy. It enables seamless connectivity between smartphones and vehicles.

The smartphone even becomes a digital key to unlock and start the car. ( Yes, we see the potential for govt agencies or manufacturers to effectively lock you out of your vehicle using this feature – Ed)

Once the driver is seated, the smartphone, placed in its docking station, acts as a multimedia screen and displays their favourite navigation app. It also serves as the vehicle’s audio system, connected to a portable Bluetooth speaker that is compatible with YouClip.
