It’s a tricky time for graduates and those seeking a new career step-change. AI looks set to impact many sectors, even the public sector. Many admin roles will vanish as tech automates compliance across the insurance chain for example. So how about underwriting risk? Here’s the word from the IUA;
Careers in environmental insurance are being promoted in a new campaign launched by the International Underwriting Association (IUA). A leaflet published by the body’s Environmental Underwriting Committee outlines opportunities in what is described as ‘one of the most dynamic, purpose-driven sectors in the insurance market’. It has been produced to encourage more people to consider taking on specialist roles providing cover for environmental liabilities.
Currently many companies transfer underwriting trainees between environmental and other general liability insurance teams. Many practitioners also enter the insurance market only after first working elsewhere in the field of environmental protection.
The promotion of environmental insurance is part of the IUA Futures programme, which supports London company market professionals with education, training and networking opportunities during the first years of their careers.
Tom Hughes, IUA Director of Underwriting, said: “Environmental insurance offers a rare blend of technical challenge, commercial impact and environmental stewardship. It opens up opportunities to work across a wide range of industrial, commercial and agricultural sectors.
“Environmental insurers are playing a vital role in shaping how we respond to some of the greatest challenges facing the globe. Pollution threats, climate risk and sustainable development all require insurance solutions to protect businesses and ecosystems.”
The IUA Environmental Underwriting Committee is made up of specialists from across the London company market. It recently hosted its own conference event and has previously published a number of reports discussing coverage issues for environmental losses.
