Data Center Risks in Focus For Willis

Data centres are a growth area, and as the world becomes more hungry for data the risks surrounding high energy consumption centres can only grow in scale. For insurers there are questions over in-house data centres, storing sensitive info themselves, rather than trusting Cloud services indefinitely. As regards cover, there are initial building risks, power supply interruption, cyber and terror attacks, new regulations to consider and more.

Apart from a handful of political analysts and visionaries, there seems to be no serious thinking in the UK government about the massive power generation demand that the UK will require in a few years’ time. Just to keep up in the Data Center race, not actually lead in AI systems, platforms, apps etc. Who will build the 5-10 power stations we need, how long will it take, where’s the cash coming from?

So far the answers from the UK government are just tumbleweed. Here’s the word from Willis;

Willis, a WTW business (NASDAQ: WTW), building on its newly unveiled data center risk management framework, today announced the launch of its Global Digital Infrastructure Group led by Alastair Swift, Head of Willis Global Specialties. The group has been established to redefine and address the risks facing data center owners, operators, contractors, and hyperscalers worldwide.
