The word on a new partnership aimed at helping young drivers get on the road with affordable insurance premiums;
Young Driver, the UK’s biggest under-17s driver trainer, has partnered with learner/early driver insurer MyFirst to bring down the cost of cover for its students as they take to the public road for the first time. Students of Young Driver are already 62% more likely to pass their test first time, and 84% less likely to crash in the first critical six months after passing their test.
MyFirst’s clever hybrid policy, which covers drivers learning in their own car and then automatically switches at no charge to a new driver policy once their test is passed, is therefore the perfect accompaniment to Young Driver’s foundation training.
Ian Mulingani, Young Driver’s managing director, believes the partnership will provide one of the most cost-effective ways for young people to get behind the wheel from the age of 17: “The cost of car insurance can be prohibitive for many young people, but our new partnership with MyFirst builds on Young Driver students’ training, and allows them to use the skills they’ve already acquired to bring down the cost of their premium – and that starts with a £50 introductory discount. We will be announcing another insurance partnership to work in tandem with MyFirst’s very soon.”
MyFirst’s hybrid policy covers learner drivers in their own car and then converts to a regular policy, without any sudden price hikes, after they have passed their test. A no claims bonus (NCB) is earned from day one, and while proven telematics are used in unison with a proactive intervention policy to improve safety and reduce accidents, no fines are imposed along the way.
MyFirst, the UK’s highest-rated young driver insurer (according to Trust Pilot), also has a specialist team available to offer expert advice to drivers as they take to the road for the first time.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Young Driver,” said James Noble, CEO and founder of My First. “They’re leaders in helping young people gain valuable early driving experience, and like us, they share a commitment to building skills and confidence from the very start of a driver’s journey. Our aim is to make the insurance process straightforward and easy for young drivers and their parents, removing confusing insurance jargon and ensuring they can speak directly with our friendly team whenever they need support.”
