New Leadership and Focus on Policyholder Disputes at Indemnity Law

The latest strategy update from Indemnity Law;
Policyholder insurance disputes firm Indemnity Law has appointed Denise Eastlake and Tom Pangbourne as Managing Partners, as part of a broader leadership transition that includes the launching of a new team dedicated to developing AI solutions to improve insurance claims outcomes for policyholders.
Founder James Morris, who established the business in 2020, will lead the new division with an initial focus on using technology to widen access to Indemnity Law’s specialist expertise for SME policyholders in dispute with their insurers.
Ranked by Chambers since 2023, Indemnity Law advises across the full spectrum of insurance disputes and has supported policyholders on some of the highest profile claims affecting the insurance market, including claims arising out of the Grenfell Tower disaster, numerous Serious Fraud Office investigations, international cyber incidents, property damage/war risk issues flowing from the Russia/Ukraine war amongst others.
Leadership transition
Together, Denise and Tom bring nearly 40 years of combined experience advising on complex insurance claims. Like all lawyers at the firm, Denise and Tom bring first‑hand experience of how the insurance market operates and now act exclusively for policyholders on high‑stakes and complex disputes.
Eastlake joined Indemnity after long tenures at DAC Beachcroft and Kennedys, where she developed a particular focus on renewables and climate-related insurance risks, advising on disputes arising from complex property damage losses.
Pangbourne has two decades of experience advising on insurance coverage and liability in claims against professionals and directors. He has a particular specialism in assisting crime and regulatory defence firms accessing management liability cover for their clients, in advising buy-side corporates on high-value warranty & indemnity claims, and in professional indemnity insurance cover.
The dual Managing Partner structure maintains the firm’s hands-on approach, with both leaders continuing to work directly with clients alongside leading the firm’s continued growth.
Further bolstering the firm’s senior leadership team, Indemnity Law has also appointed John Curran, a longstanding partner at the firm, as Senior Partner. The promotion recognises John’s years of unrivalled expertise advising on complex insurance disputes and his longstanding contribution to the firm’s growth and reputation in the insurance sector.
Denise Eastlake, Managing Partner at Indemnity Law, said:
“James has done an incredible job growing the firm over the last 6 years. Both our lawyers and valued operations team are dedicated to serving our clients so that they can access the cover they paid for.  While James is handing over the reins to Tom and me in order to launch our new AI and innovation capabilities, we will continue to work closely to achieve the best results for our clients.  I am delighted to be leading the firm into this next phase.”

Tom Pangbourne, Managing Partner at Indemnity Law, said:
“What matters to clients is the outcome – having someone in their corner when the stakes are high to deliver results. Our team is passionate about our clients and securing a fair outcome when an insurance policy isn’t responding as it should be. Insurance claims can often be a bet-the-farm scenario for our clients and at Indemnity we bring to bear our many years of insurance expertise to help them. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Denise to lead the team in those endeavours.”
AI as a strategic focus
Alongside the leadership transition, Indemnity Law is launching a new in-house team dedicated to AI and innovation. This reflects the firm’s strategic focus on using technology to improve claims outcomes and developing AI solutions to widen access to the firm’s specialist insurance expertise.
Its first project will complement traditional legal services, offering a more accessible starting point for individuals and businesses pursuing claims through routes such as the Financial Ombudsman Service through a hybrid of human advice and AI support, under development by the firm in-house.

The initiative will harness James Morris’ and Indemnity Law’s long‑standing commitment to AI and is supported by a specialist internal team, combining senior legal expertise – including newly promoted Legal Director Rachel Auld – with embedded technical capability.
