Car Wash Anti-Fraud Software Passes 1m Case Milestone

Checking claims is an integral part of the insurance claims process, here’s the word;

A milestone has been reached for the counter-fraud technology known as Car Wash, created by HF, leading legal advisers to the commercial and insurance sectors, and used by the majority of UK motor insurers.

As Car Wash passes its one millionth case since its creation in 2018, with issues being found on 8.4% of claims, that amounts to an estimated total saving for insurers of over £145 million.

Car Wash is HF’s proprietary intelligence platform which interrogates multiple datasets, cross-references inconsistencies, and highlights the kind of technical discrepancies that would be time-consuming, or impossible, to spot manually by insurance motor claim handlers.

Car Wash can be accessed via HF’s AI solution ELI and performs, in seconds, over 40 vehicle-related intelligence checks for handlers dealing with motor claims involving credit hire disputes, suspected fraud, technical indemnity issues etc, across large volumes of cases.

It provides fast, actionable intelligence that supports confident, evidence-led decision-making, with key issues discovered including:

  • Over 33,000 claimant vehicles passing an MOT and being declared to safe on the road, whilst the driver hired a vehicle
  • Over 10,000 vehicles having only been driven less than a thousand miles in the year prior to hire, suggesting they might be “second” cars, rather than a primary one requiring replacement
  • Over 12,000 vehicles matching an adverse intelligence flag on our database, for involved in other suspect claims
  • Over 3,000 possible times where the hired vehicle dates overlapped with another hire of the same vehicle
