Today Worldwide Broker Network (WBN) launches its ‘Must C-Suite Vodcast Series’, a programme of honest, in-depth interviews with some of the most prominent leaders in the global insurance and risk management industry, and beyond. Here are the details;
Featuring a different guest every six weeks, the conversations go beyond the boardroom, diving into the hearts and minds of leaders to discuss their personal journeys, life lessons and advice to the next generation. The series turns the spotlight away from strategy and sales, and onto the soft skills and real people – or ‘amazing humans’ as WBN CEO Olga Collins calls them – who shape exceptional leadership.
The conversations cover everything from memorable mentors, impactful personal experiences, the realities of leadership, navigating self-doubt, the power of intergenerational learning and much more. Each episode closes with a fun quick-fire personal round, from the one item they won’t travel without, to their favourite drink and holiday destination.
The first three guests in the line-up:
1. Joel Wood, President & CEO, The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB)
Drawing on years of lobbying on Capitol Hill, Joel reflects on the tension between conflict-aversion and the moments leaders must step into the fire. His episode is rich with hard-won wisdom: “The foot you step on today is connected to the ass you’ve got to kiss tomorrow.”
2. Greg Bates, President & CEO, Global Risk Consultants (GRC)
Greg credits his greatest leadership lessons not to a boardroom mentor but to a baseball coach and challenges the myth of the solo decision-making CEO. For Greg, no decision worth making is made alone.
3. Powell Brown, President & CEO, Brown & Brown
Leading one of the world’s largest brokerage firms, founded by his grandfather, Powell speaks to legacy, presence and personal authenticity, stressing the importance of character in leadership: “There’s lots of ways to be successful in leadership, but I do believe that you got to be true to yourself and true to your word.”
“Insurance is first and foremost a people’s business, so we wanted to get to know the real people driving the success of our industry. I believe that risk and relationships – my version of R&R – must go hand in hand to be effective”, said Olga Collins, CEO of WBN. “Leadership is not for the weary, but a little bit of discomfort leads to development, and that’s what this series is all about.”
