The latest news from Bishop Street Underwriters;
Bishop Street Underwriters (“Bishop Street”), a RedBird Capital Partners portfolio company, today announced it has established a new UK group structure bringing together its growing portfolio of UK specialty insurance businesses under a single management framework.
Following Bishop Street’s acquisitions of Landmark Underwriting and Avid Insurance, the new structure will unite the firm’s UK businesses together under Bishop Street Underwriters UK (“BSU UK”), creating a common management and governance structure that will allow for more efficient operations across the group. As part of BSU UK, Bishop Street’s UK businesses will benefit from greater coordination across strategy, technology, operations and capacity management, while maintaining the specialist underwriting expertise within each business.
Avid Insurance, Landmark Underwriting and Incorporated Insurance Group (“IIGL”) will continue to operate under their existing brands and regulated entities, with their underwriting and distribution teams remaining within their existing structures. The businesses will retain and continue to develop their individual market identities, underwriting specialisms and broker relationships.
Bishop Street has appointed Stephen Gibson to lead Bishop Street UK’s operations as Group Chief Executive Officer, supported by John Inwood as Chief Underwriting Officer, Jon Terry as Group Chief Financial Officer and Sitki Gelmen as Deputy Chair.
As part of the changes, Bishop Street UK is also introducing integrated platforms and shared capabilities across its UK businesses to reduce duplication and make greater use of expertise, technology and resources available across the wider group. It will also create a scalable operating platform through which Bishop Street can support further organic growth and future acquisitions in the UK. There will be no change to the day-to-day service provided to clients as a result of the changes.
Stephen Gibson, Group Chief Executive Officer, Bishop Street UK, said: “Over the last 18 months Bishop Street has established a significant presence within the UK. The next stage is to bring those businesses together within a structure that allows us to operate much more effectively as one group. The important point is that we are not changing what makes those businesses unique and successful. Their brands, underwriting teams, specialist expertise, and relationships with brokers and capacity partners remain fundamental to what we are building.
“It also gives us a much stronger platform for growth and further expansion into the UK and EU. We now have a robust UK infrastructure into which we can bring additional capabilities, giving our team members access to the expertise, resources and advancement opportunities of the wider group.”
Bishop Street acquired Landmark Underwriting in February 2025, marking its first expansion outside North America, before acquiring Avid Insurance in October 2025 as it continued to build its presence in the UK specialty insurance market.
