Insurance Edge has put together a quick round up of the free insurance offers currently being promoted by car manufacturers, as new car registrations begin to decline. As the market has relied upon selling leasing/hire deals over the last few years, the number of creditworthy customers who are NOT already locked into a four year car rental package naturally shrinks. Fewer people are buying cars outright, more of us are renting.
Inevitably this means new car sales drop off, plus the prospect of further emissions based tolls and taxes on diesel, hybrid and petrol cars is putting off many consumers from spending over 20K on a new car. For example, a few years ago an electric/petrol hybrid was hailed as an inherently `greener’ car and was therefore zero rated for VED duty, but now some hybrid models can cost over £400 to tax in year one.
So if you are actually buying a new car, and spending real cash, this year, what free insurance deals can you get?
KIA
Free insurance for 12 months on selected Picanto and Rio Pulse models. You need at least one year’s NCD, plus the purchaser of the car must be the main driver and registered keeper.
CITROEN
There’s a 12 month insurance offer on the C1 city car, open to any purchaser aged 18 or over – deadline is 30th September on that one. But the French car maker also has a great deal for those wanting to rent a car; three years leasing, plus insurance, servicing and VED tax, and breakdown, all wrapped up in one monthly payment. It is something that may suit younger drivers and you MUST have a telematics device fitted as part of the deal.
VAUXHALL
Three days free cover – yes that’s correct, three whole days. Let’s move on…
PEUGEOT
The Just Add Fuel deal is aimed at drivers aged 18-20, who are buying their first car, or rather their parents are buying them a car. You get insurance, VED, servicing and car leasing for a fixed monthly fee. Like sister company Citroen, Peugeot insist on a telematics box being fitted – still a great way to get on the road if you’re a relatively wealthy novice.
NISSAN
Free five day drive-away insurance, so you’re covered for the first few days and it gives yuo time to compare the best car insurance quotes. Sister company Dacia, which is also part of the Renault partnership/empire like Nissan, also offer Driveaway insurance.
