Freelance career platform UnderPinned will offer its services for free until September to help ease the financial pressures facing millions of freelancers as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The offer will give new and existing members full access to UnderPinned’s Virtual Office platform and all of its features in the essential plan – offering a saving of £54. This includes everything from a portfolio and proposal builder to project management tools and an automated invoice system. Members will also be offered a Covid-19 special resource, outlining available support and providing advice on how to diversify and improve revenue streams.
The announcement from the London-based start-up comes as millions of freelancers across the UK face a significant reduction in income, as businesses everywhere look to cut costs. According to new research from the Creative Industries Federation, 54% of freelancers in the creative sector expect income to decrease by over 50% due to fallout from the pandemic, with many already experiencing immediate losses.
UnderPinned are not the only company to be making such an offer – flexible business insurer Digital Risks, who recently partnered with UnderPinned, will also be providing services for free in the wake of Covid-19. This will include free commercial legal protection and 24/7 helplines for legal, financial and tax issues, as well as mental health support. All of these services are easily accessible through the UnderPinned platform.
Albert Azis-Clauson, CEO and Co-Founder of UnderPinned, said: “Freelancers are going to be hit particularly hard in the coming weeks and we want to do everything we can to support them. Hopefully by making our service free for this period, we can make a small difference to any freelance worker whose income is under threat.”
“I believe that the Government needs to do more to protect freelance workers over the next few weeks, given that we are talking about a workforce of over two million people. I am calling on policymakers to consider a freelancer support package which includes better sick pay provisions and a one-off low-interest loan for the self-employed.”
UnderPinned was founded in 2019 to help freelancers find work, manage work and get paid. The company aims to tackle the lack of infrastructure and support that exists for the UK’s two million freelance workers and it recently launched its full paid-for service.
“These are unprecedented times and freelancers, especially, will be feeling the pinch more than most. Digital Risks is delighted to be able to extend our offer of FREE commercial legal protection insurance to ANY freelancer subscribing to UnderPinned (previously this offer was only available to premium users), which includes access to 24/7 tax, legal, and mental health helplines”, said Henry Newby, Partnerships Director at Digital Risks.
