BGL Group, a leading digital distributor of insurance and household financial services, has this week joined the UK’s Tech Talent Charter (TTC), reinforcing its commitment to inclusion and diversity in the workplace. A non-profit organisation, the TTC aims to address inequality in the UK’s technology industry, seeking to drive inclusion and diversity to ensure the sector is a true reflection of the society it represents.
With over 3,000 colleagues, BGL has a large technology community working across all of its major brands, including comparethemarket.com, Budget Insurance and Beagle Street – with technology, data and user experience roles making up over 20 per cent of the Group’s workforce. This latest move by BGL is the first part of a wide and comprehensive new strategy, set to roll-out over the coming months.
Explaining the Group’s decision to join the TTC, Stuart Walters, Chief Information Officer, BGL Group, said: “With the skills shortages still being faced in the technology sector and the increasingly diverse range of careers now available, never has it been more important to nurture an inclusive culture. We must ensure that technology careers resonate with and appeal to the broadest possible cross section of society. I personally give regular career talks at my daughter’s school in a bid to try and open more eyes to the opportunities and changes taking place in the sector.”
Stuart continued: “At BGL, we encourage our colleagues to bring their true self to the office for the benefit of our entire business, not least for the positive impact it has on the services we provide for our customers. We are at the beginning of our D&I journey and recognise we have a long way to go, but signing up to important initiatives like the TTC is a key marker in demonstrating our commitment to driving a more inclusive culture for all.”
