The FCA has taken action over the latest woke advert from retailer John Lewis, which has resulted in the TV campaign being cancelled.
As the Evening Standard reports, the FCA stepped in over the exact wording of the ad, and the potential consumer intepretation of the cover being offered. In the super-woke ad a fledgling transgender boy is seen gleefully trashing parts of his parent(s) house as he channels his inner drag queen.
Sadly, such deliberate and wilful damage, plus the mother’s reluctance to intervene in any way, means that any insurance claim arising from the destruction may well be declined. Generally Contents insurance is there to cover accidental damage, not deliberate vandalism. Therefore the FCA concluded that the advert may well be misleading, in that it suggests deliberate damage IS covered.
John Lewis issued a statement today;
“You may have seen our ‘Let Life Happen’ advert for our new home contents insurance offering, which ran between 11 and 27 October 2021.
“This advert has been withdrawn because the Financial Conduct Authority considers the content to be potentially misleading and could cause customers to be confused about John Lewis’s new home contents insurance offering.”
Oh well, all publicity is good publicity.
What a pathetic woke society we have become.
