As many people in the insurance industry know the trouble with vehicle trackers is that pro thieves are often able to locate them, or park the stolen vehicle for a few days to see if the owner or anyone else turns up to reclaim the car. The answer could be more subtle, in the shape of a covert tracker service, which would help nail the gangs nicking Range Rovers, Audis, BMWs and many other high performance or prestige cars to order.
AX Innovation has become a member of “Secured by Design” as the official police security initiative turns its attention to cracking down on vehicle-related crime. Secured by Design (SBD) is the official police security initiative that is owned by the UK Police Service and has the specific aim to reduce crime and help people live more safely.
The membership is as a result of AX Track’s covert vehicle tracking technology which achieved Police Preferred Specification – an accreditation standard providing recognition for security products and services that meet rigorous testing criteria.
As part of the Secured by Design initiative, AX Innovation will work with the group to aid its efforts in tackling vehicle crime, a significant contributor to overall UK crime rates. Doug Skins, Development Officer at Secured by Design, said: “I’m really pleased that AX Innovation has joined the Secured by Design family of member companies, with their AX Track covert technology becoming accredited.
“Vehicle crime makes up a significant number of all recorded crimes across the United Kingdom and this is a welcome addition to the portfolio of products that has been tested and certified to meet the exacting standards you would expect from the police. I look forward to working with AX Innovation over the coming years.”
Secured by Design was established in 1989 to improve the physical security of newly built housing estates. Since then, the organisation has grown considerably, and now works with builders, developers, local authorities, and registered housing associations to incorporate police crime prevention standards into housing construction projects carried out today.

Secured by Design’s Police Preferred Specification accreditation recognises security products that have not only been tested to relevant security standards but have also been certified by an independent third-party certification body, which for AX Track is Thatcham Cat S7 accreditation.
With AX Track’s covert technology achieving this standard, Police forces can recommend the Secured by Design accredited product as well as direct members of the public to AX Track’s services and product portfolio.
In combination with the covert tracking technology, AX Track provides a team of investigative professionals via its sister product AX Protect. The team is experienced in locating and recovering stolen vehicles across the UK, Europe and even in Africa, delivering one of the highest vehicle recovery rates in the industry – AX Track’s current recovery rate of stolen vehicles stands at 99.4 per cent.
Neil Thomas, Director of Investigative Services at AX Innovation, commented: “We see the impact of vehicle crime on motorists, businesses and insurers and work with the UK Police service using our technology to help recover stolen vehicles. I am therefore delighted that AX Track has achieved Police Preferred Specification, which further demonstrates the effectiveness of product. I look forward to working with Secured by Design to provide the best vehicle protection service possible.”
