Here we are in a new year, so let’s have a round-up of the latest senior hires and job moves.

SCOR

Reinsurance specialist SCOR announces the appointment of Yves Cormier as Head of Investor Relations, with effect from today. Reporting to Ian Kelly, Group Chief Financial Officer, Yves will be based in London.

Commenting on the appointment, Ian Kelly said“I am delighted that Yves is joining us as Head of Investor Relations. As we move towards the unveiling of our next strategic plan at the end of March, his experience and expertise will be extremely valuable in terms of continuing to engage proactively with shareholders and sharing the Group’s roadmap for value creation with the market.” 

TOWERGATE

Leading independent insurance brokers Towergate Insurance Brokers has expanded its Welsh team with a significant new appointment.

Stuart Daviss joins Towergate Insurance Brokers as an account executive, bringing a wealth of industry experience from his time spent working as an account director at Creative Risk Solutions Ltd.

In his new role, he will be engaging with clients directly, growing relationships to provide them with sound insurance and risk management advice. He will predominantly focus on the commercial and corporate sectors, in South and West Wales, with some clients in North Wales and Bristol.

WORLD TRAVEL PROTECTION

Adrian Marklew has joined World Travel Protection’s UK team in the role of Director of Corporate Relationships and Partner Development, as the company expands its presence in the UK and Europe. World Travel Protection is a leading travel risk management company owned by Zurich Insurance Group.

Adrian reports to UK Business Development Director, Alex Twiggs, and will be building on his existing relationships with the Corporate Travel sector to raise awareness of World Travel Protection’s comprehensive travel risk management solution to the travelling business community.

Adrian previously worked for global travel technology provider, Sabre, for eight years and prior to this held senior business development roles with leading global Corporate Travel Management companies.

CHUBB

Drew Spitzer

Chubb Limited (NYSE: CB) has announced that Drew Spitzer has been appointed Treasurer of the company.  Currently, Mr. Spitzer serves as Chief Financial Officer for North America Insurance.  In his new role, he will be responsible for all treasury-related functions of the company globally.

Kevin Harkin is succeeding Mr. Spitzer as Chief Financial Officer for North America Insurance.  Currently, Mr. Harkin serves as Senior Vice President, North America Financial Operations.

Both appointments are effective March 1.  Mr. Spitzer will report to Peter Enns, Executive Vice President, Chubb Group and Chief Financial Officer, and succeeds Mark Hammond, who is leaving the company.  Mr. Hammond will remain with Chubb until March 1 to ensure a smooth transition.  Mr. Harkin will report to John Lupica, Vice Chairman, Chubb Group and President, North America Insurance and to Mr. Enns.

NEXT

NEXT Insurance is announcing the hire of Teodora Gouneva as the company’s Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. Teodora joins NEXT after most recently serving as the VP of Finance at Airbnb where she built the business finance function and created performance and financial management processes needed to enable growth and accountability as a public company. Prior to Airbnb, she spent nearly 15 years at PayPal.

HAKLUYT

Hakluyt, the strategic advisory firm for businesses and investors, is proud to announce that Jeff Greenberg and Mark Wiseman have joined the company’s advisory board.

Jeff Greenberg

The Hakluyt International Advisory Board provides the firm with advice and connectivity across the globe. It is chaired by Niall FitzGerald KBE, former CEO and chairman of Unilever, and members are drawn from the worlds of business, government and academia.

Jeff Greenberg has several decades of experience in the insurance industry, having been chairman and CEO of Marsh & McLennan and executive vice president of AIG’s domestic brokerage group. After leaving insurance, he founded Aquiline Capital Partners, a private investment firm based in New York and London with $7 billion in assets under management, where he is now chairman and CEO. Jeff is also a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and of the New York Presbyterian Hospital, alongside a number of other philanthropic commitments.

Mark Wiseman is a leading investment manager and business executive, who was previously a senior managing director at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager. Prior to BlackRock, Mark was president and CEO of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. He now is a senior adviser to Lazard and chair of Alberta Investment Management Corporation’s board of directors. Mark is also on the board of the United Way of Greater Toronto, the Sinai Health System, and the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, as well as other non-profit organisations.

HDI
Ireland (HDI) is pleased to announce that Niall Carberry has been to the role of Head of Underwriting Ireland. In this role, Carberry will lead HDI’s business in Ireland. He will report to Stephanie Ogden, Director of Underwriting & Distribution.

Carberry joins HDI from Chubb where he has spent the majority of his career to date. In his most recent role, he held overall responsibility for the Casualty Portfolio in Ireland.

LIBERTY SPECIALTY

Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has appointed two new senior underwriters to support the launch of a Real Estate insurance product.

Steve Lawrence (below) and Andrew Whittaker (above) report to Head of Property, Dermot Walsh.  The two senior underwriters will write a new Retail Estate product within LSM’s property team, focusing on larger clients including property investors, asset managers, managing agents and pensions funds. They join with immediate effect and are based in London. The product targets offices, retail premises including shopping centres, hospitality and leisure facilities and warehouses among others.

Dermot Walsh said: “The real estate market has been through a challenging period with capacity in short supply and a shortage of really experienced and talented underwriters. There are real opportunities for the right team with the right product to service this market.” 

“Steve and Andrew know this sector exceptionally well and are highly respected figures in the market. By bringing them on board, we can leverage the strengths of our property team while developing a new underwriting specialism. 

BERKELEY ALEXANDER

General insurance provider Berkeley Alexander has announced the appointment of Caine Bruce (above) to its broking team.

Caine joins from One Answer Insurance, where he was a sales agent and brings with him nine years’ customer experience, business development and sales expertise.

Mark Hutchings, Managing Director of Berkeley Alexander, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Caine to our rapidly expanding team – his appointment demonstrates we are doubling down on our commitment to recruit, train, and invest in the next generation of Berkeley Alexander Brokers.  We’re hugely optimistic for 2022 and continue to recruit new team members to cater for growth.  Despite current hard market conditions, and the ongoing challenges of Covid, Brexit and slow economic recovery, new business income is up 10% on 2020.  We’ve seen an 18% increase in new introductions and a significant uplift in renewals.   Caine will be a great addition to our team as we continue to strive to exceed our targets.”

EVOLUTION IQ

EvolutionIQ, the most rapidly adopted Claims Guidance platform amongst insurance carriers, recently announced a new appointment to its leadership team, naming Alex Young as Executive Vice President of Sales. Alex brings over 20 years of experience in the insurance technology business, having worked both at major carriers in executive roles and in sales leadership roles across the insurance software ecosystem. Alex has delivered 9-figure core system overhauls, as well as highly targeted analytical solutions, and has worked across both the Life Accident & Health business, and Property & Casualty.

Most recently, Alex was Executive Vice President of Business Development at Sapiens, where he led tier 1 market development. “This is an incredibly exciting time to be joining EvolutionIQ, as early clients became great advocates and the ROI of the platform speaks for itself. GALLAGHER

Gallagher has appointed Daniel Miller to lead its financial lines operations for clients in the Middle East. Daniel will join Gallagher in April from AON, where he has worked for the last eight years as regional head of financial and professional liability (finpro) for the Middle East. He has 20 years’ experience in financial lines broking, having started his career in the London Market, and since 2010 been based in the Middle East.

Daniel brings extensive underwriter and client relationships in the Middle East, and is experienced in sourcing custom solutions for financial lines clients including crime, directors’ and officers’ (D&O), professional indemnity (PI), cyber and bankers’ blanket bonds. In addition, he has sourced solutions for clients facing syndicated fraud and project finance fraud risks, and designed and placed solutions for highly complex risks including D&O and public offering of securities (POSI), including acting as the lead insurance adviser for the world’s largest IPO in Saudi Arabia in 2019.

ZURICH

As Zurich continues to grow its Property team within its commercial insurance business, Dean Cloke has been appointed into a new role of Head of Property Real Estate, effective immediately.

Dean started his career with Zurich in 2009 on its graduate programme and has since developed his expertise and industry knowledge through a series of property underwriting roles in London and across the UK.  In his new position, Dean will be responsible for the Real Estate Property underwriting strategy and go-to-market approach.
