AXA XL Insurance has announced it has appointed Sabrina Lahrmann as Senior Underwriter, International Property, UK & Lloyd’s, with immediate effect.
In her new role, Ms. Lahrmann will be responsible for helping to deliver the strategic, profitable growth of AXA XL’s International Property book of business in the UK and establishing and developing relationships with key brokers and clients.
Commenting on the appointment, Ben Kinsella, Underwriting Manager, International Property, UK & Lloyd’s market, said: “As our clients increasingly face evolving and more complex risks – coupled with inflationary pressures – helping them to better understand their insured values and level of cover requires an experienced partner.
Zurich UK announces Sam Thomas, currently Head of Mid-Market, has been appointed as Head of Retail Underwriting.
Sam has more than 16-years’ experience in the insurance industry, gained across both market-facing and technical underwriting roles. Prior to joining Zurich in 2019, Sam was Strategy Development Manager at AXA and held a series of senior underwriting positions at Allianz. Supporting David Martin in his role as Head of Retail, Sam will focus on enhancing customer and broker satisfaction and steering Zurich’s retail underwriting teams towards further growth.

Zurich will announce a new Head of Mid-Market in due course.
Andrew Hare has been appointed Managing Director, Asia Pacific at RMS®, a Moody’s Analytics company and global leader in risk modelling and solutions. Andrew will be responsible for integrating and leading the strategy and execution across the combined RMS and Moody’s Analytics Insurance Vertical, as well as overseeing client relationships and business development in the region. He will be based in Singapore and will report to Michael Steel, General Manager at RMS, and Wael Jadallah, Moody’s Analytics Head of APAC and the Middle East.
Andrew has almost 25 years of experience and was most recently Managing Director and Head of Aon Inpoint (Aon’s insurance advisory business) for Asia. He was previously a Managing Director responsible for Strategy and Growth at Aon Reinsurance Solutions across Asia Pacific. During his 17-year career with Aon, Andrew worked extensively with insurers and reinsurers in the UK, Europe, Bermuda, and North America before moving to Singapore in 2013. Andrew began his career with Accenture after majoring in Business Management at Oxford Brookes University.
Liberty Mutual Insurance has announced the appointment of two individuals to newly created leadership positions within Global Risk Solutions (GRS), its commercial and specialty (re)insurance unit. Effective September 1, Crystal Ottaviano will join as GRS Chief Risk Officer, and Chantal Rodriguez will become Liberty Mutual Reinsurance Chief Underwriting Officer. Ottaviano will report to GRS Chief Financial Officer Alison Erbig. Rodriguez will report to both GRS President of Underwriting Matthew Moore and Liberty Mutual Reinsurance President Dieter Winkel.
As GRS Chief Risk Officer, Ottaviano will build differentiated global risk expertise capabilities that support a forward-thinking, risk-aware underwriting mindset designed to deliver exceptional value to Liberty’s partners and customers. Ottaviano, who has more than 25 years of risk management experience, joins from Aspen Insurance Group, where she was Group Chief Risk Officer. Throughout her career, she served in many senior leadership roles, including Chief Risk Officer of Swiss Reinsurance America and Head of Risk Management at Hiscox US.
“Given today’s tremendously complex and interconnected risk environment, a CRO’s key function in implementing and maintaining comprehensive risk frameworks and fostering a strong risk culture has never been more important,” said Erbig. “Crystal plays a vital role in helping deliver superior underwriting performance by creating these frameworks to drive risk-informed decisions. As Liberty Mutual Reinsurance Chief Underwriting Officer, Rodriguez is accountable for underwriting performance across its broad set of flexible treaty reinsurance products, delivered through 18 offices across the globe. She is a 13-year veteran of Liberty Mutual, most recently serving as Liberty Specialty Markets Head of Enterprise Risk Management. Throughout her 17 years in the industry, she has successfully shaped and executed reinsurance strategies, delivered robust and consistent underwriting risk assessment and appetite, and led cross-functional international teams.

He will be responsible for developing new and existing relationships with the group’s portfolio of leading vehicle manufacturer partners and major franchise dealer groups.
