Zego Partners With Brake on Fleet Safety

UK commercial motor insurer, Zego, has announced a partnership with road safety campaign group Brake, to educate fleet businesses on road safety and promote safer driving among the fleet community.

The partnership with Brake underlines Zego’s commitment to supporting its fleet customers by helping them manage risk, as well as educating them on road safety measures that could reduce the likelihood of their drivers being involved in a collision. Zego will use and promote resources and tools developed by Brake to help fleets manage their road risk.

Initially set up as a support group for the bereaved, who were affected by a road traffic death, Brake has evolved over the last 20 years into an activist group determined to reduce private car use and ownership. Brake describes road traffic accidents as an “epidemic,” which clearly they are not. Covid was an epidemic.

Brake’s aim – as stated in their policy documents – is to make walking and cycling the default setting for shorter journeys, not car use. No matter how dangerous the streets, or public transport, might be for women, children or vulnerable adults.

SUPPORT IS A GOOD THING

The partnership between Zego and Brake will enable the insurer to support the charity’s vital work caring for people bereaved and injured in road crashes as well as its broader campaigns around safer driving. This is a good thing, as insurance brands can face criticism sometimes over their handling of bereavement, cancellation of payment plans, admin problems etc. The benefits of having claims staff talking to charity staff experienced in supporting the bereaved can only be good news.

Sten Saar, Chief Executive at Zego, said: “Brake’s tireless campaigning on road safety means there is no better organisation for us to partner with as we continue to promote safer driving among fleets. The future of mobility is immensely exciting and brings with it opportunities for further innovation and advancement. However, it also brings risks that could seriously harm businesses, their staff, and the wider public.

“As a commercial motor insurer, we believe we have a responsibility to play our part in creating a safer transport ecosystem and partnering with Brake helps us demonstrate how serious we are about this.”
