BRITANNIA

Britannia’s Managers continue to strengthen their senior management team, with Simon Williams taking on the role of Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) of Britannia P&I Club and Mike Hall focusing on his Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) position, including oversight of Britannia’s London operations and regional hubs.

Simon joined Britannia in 2017 and in 2019 was promoted to Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer, with responsibility for the management of the London-based underwriting team and with particular focus on the Club’s European membership. Prior to joining Britannia, Simon worked at another P&I Club where he was a Group Director.

Simon’s promotion allows Mike to focus on his DCEO role, which includes responsibility for the day-to-day management of Britannia’s London office, as well having oversight of Britannia’s regional hubs ensuring that Britannia continues to provide exceptional service to its Members worldwide. Mike remains Chair of the Reinsurance Committee of the International Group of P&I Clubs (the IG).

BEAZLEY

Specialist insurer Beazley has hired Rogier van Ommeren, extending the Benelux Team as a financial lines underwriter. He will be responsible for underwriting Beazley’s financial lines book of business in Benelux, working closely with local brokers and partners.

Mr van Ommeren joins Beazley following 13 years employment at financial lines niche broker Schouten Insurance International in The Netherlands and thereafter has been working for various broking houses since moving to Barcelona end of 2020. Rogier will be part of the Benelux team led by Alexander van Nierop supporting the Beazley book that has grown significantly during the last 4 years.

GUIDEWIRE

Guidewire (NYSE: GWRE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Will McAllister, as Senior Vice President, Managing Director, EMEA.  In his new role, Mr. McAllister will lead Guidewire’s customer-facing teams across EMEA, including sales and delivery services.  He will report to President and Chief Revenue Officer, John Mullen.

Mr. McAllister is an accomplished senior executive with more than sixteen years of operational experience in software companies, including more than eight years at Guidewire. Most recently, he served as Guidewire’s Vice President, EMEA Operations, General Counsel, and Assistant Corporate Secretary.  Prior to Guidewire, Mr. McAllister was Head of Commercial and Legal with SAS Software and Senior Commercial Manager with Misys.

This announcement follows the opening of Guidewire’s EMEA headquarters in Dublin, Ireland, in March 2022, and aligns with the company’s commitment to continued investment in high-growth regions.  In the past year, Guidewire has grown its presence in six countries (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Sweden) and now has 74 customers in 19 countries in the Guidewire EMEA customer community.  In addition to the Dublin headquarters, Guidewire has offices in Denmark, France/Benelux, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

HCA Healthcare UK (HCA UK) has appointed Claire Hubbard as Chief Nursing Officer for The Harborne Hospital – a new multi-specialty private hospital opening in Birmingham in Spring 2023.

Claire has over 27 years’ experience working in the hospital and healthcare industry, with a focus on healthcare leadership and management, governance, quality improvement and patient safety.

In her new role at The Harborne Hospital, part of HCA UK, Claire will be responsible for overseeing the overall operation of the clinical teams within the facility to deliver the highest standards of patient care, promoting and ensuring a culture of continual quality improvement and learning, and ensuring compliance with quality standards.

TOKIO MARINE KILN

Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK), the leading specialist international insurer, announces the appointment of Kirsten Shastri as Head of Life Sciences as it targets growth in the sector.

Reporting to Departmental Head of Liability Chris Jones, Shastri will underwrite a range of Life Sciences risks including traditional medical device and pharmaceutical companies through to novel products being developed worldwide.

Coverage will also be available for products liability; professional indemnity; medical malpractice; public liability and clinical trials, alongside some nuanced covers currently offered by TMK. Further product developments are planned from 2023, with distribution focused through TMK’s extensive international coverholder network in addition to traditional open market placements.

The new appointment follows the continued growth of TMK’s Liability division, which focuses on risks domiciled worldwide (excluding the US), as it expands and broadens its portfolio.

CAMPBELL JOHNSTON CLARK

Campbell Johnston Clark (CJC) has made two key appointments at senior associate level in the UK, strengthening both its litigation and transactional teams.Based at the firm’s Newcastle office, Neil Jackson has been appointed a Senior Associate to advise owners and charterers on all aspects of dry shipping law. ALLIANZ ENGINEERING

Allianz Engineering has appointed Peter Milton as chief engineer, effective 3 October, to succeed Peter Carless who retired at the end of September.

Peter Milton’s career spans more than three decades in the inspection and insurance industry. A chartered engineer with a diploma in Company Direction, he brings a wealth of experience, which will be very valuable as Allianz Engineering rolls out a new business strategy.

After graduating in mechanical engineering, he started his career at HSB Engineering Insurance, progressing to managing director. In that role, he helped the engineering division navigate technical and operational challenges, including the transfer of the business from AIG to Munich Re.

NORTHCOURT

Northcourt, the Optio Group subsidiary and underwriter of international nuclear risk, announces that Ed Butler has joined in a non-executive advisory capacity.

Butler, who is currently chief resilience officer at Pool Re, joins Northcourt as senior adviser to help raise Northcourt’s profile within government and the nuclear sector as a leading global authority within the nuclear insurance industry.

Reporting to Optio executive chairman Matthew Fosh, he will work alongside Northcourt chief executive, Alan Rickett and fellow consultant and respected authority on nuclear risk, Mark Tetley. Butler will further support Northcourt in achieving its strategic ambitions, positioning and optimising the business to meet the shifting needs of its nuclear clients at a time of great change for the industry.

Following his distinguished military career, in which he served as both Commander of 22 SAS and Commander of the British Forces in Afghanistan, Butler has spent the last 14 years in commercial risk consultancy and terrorism reinsurance. He brings almost four decades of experience in the geopolitical, intelligence, risk, resilience, nuclear and insurance sectors to Northcourt.
