Can CAPS Speed the Motor Claims Repair Process?

CAPSâ – the Common Automotive Platform Standard – is launching a new and greatly improved platform in October 2022 for use exclusively by the collision repair industry in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The new platform brings more performance, connectivity and capacity to power the whole of the insurance motor claims repair ecosystem, from the first notification of loss to the end of the repair.

The CAPSâ development team worked closely with industry stakeholders in the upgrade process to create flexible connectivity, maximising the impact of the enhanced platform. “Any to many” is the biggest innovation and a step change in how users will be able to use the platform to share data. The feature will enable all businesses supporting the motor insurance and collision industry to safely exchange data with any other organisation using CAPSâ. This enhanced level of connectivity opens up the repair ecosystem and facilitates data flow, taking away frictional constraints while retaining complete data security and integrity. Enhanced configurability means users will still control who receives information, creating ‘safe’ party lists at each end of the data flow.

CONNECTING BODYSHOPS

The result is reduced keying and administration throughout an insurance claim, the ability to route the claims in the most efficient way possible across any provider – and ultimately, better customer service. Complete schema flexibility extends the number of information types that CAPSâ can share and makes it easier to add new blocks of data pre-sets such as repair methodology, salvage and parts. Improved process structure means integrators can easily configure what can be sent to create bespoke workflows relevant to their business and sector, within the same open framework.

CAPSâ remains the only claims data platform to offer an ‘agnostic’ open connection that can be used with all the major bodyshop and claims management systems – and the new release is even easier to integrate with existing repair technologies.

A further major improvement is an upgraded cloud architecture and messaging hub capable of handling more transactions more quickly and with more scalability in line with the increasing numbers of CAPSâ users and the volume of data shared.

REDUCING CLAIMS ADMIN

David Mills, Head of Motor Fulfilment at Direct Line Group, said: “The new CAPS technology is quite impressive as it removes unnecessary expensive administrative burdens and is very good at connecting suppliers and customers in a safe and secure way. Using this technology not only delivers tangible financial and efficiency benefits across the business, but it also means we can deliver a better, more streamlined customer experience.”

“The new version of CAPSâ will mark a significant improvement to the claims process by enhancing existing connections and extending connectivity to all area of the industry,” said Rob Davey, CAPSâ Product Owner, who led the new version development team.

“All the changes in the new CAPSâ make exchanging data with your trusted partners easier than ever. Once a connection is migrated to the new interface, integrators will be able to immediately benefit from all the new features as well as all the previous functionalities. CAPSâ is a game changer operationally. As well as driving efficiencies, reducing claims administration, it is integral to the creation of new systems and technologies that will transform the automotive claims sector and dramatically improve the customer journey.”

It automatically translates a vast array of repair status codes and definitions to provide a clear and accurate picture of a repair across all relevant parties, dramatically enhancing repair efficiency and the end-user experience. CAPSâ is an easy-to-use plug and play platform that is secure, flexible, and provides easy access for any repairer, OEM, or insurance provider.

Joining the CAPSâ community as a repairer is easy: there’s no license to pay, no training program to go through, and no software to install. CAPSâ is also ‘future-proofed’, allowing users to continue to securely share information with trusted partners even if the management system they use is changed.
