Generali’s P&C unit Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) appointed Ralph Oliver Schmidt as the new Head of Engineering & Construction Underwriting in Germany. He will oversee the strategic development of technical insurance and the expansion of the “Green Energy”
business segment in Germany.
Commenting on the appointment, Hans-Peter Klebe, Head of GC&C Germany, stated: “We are delighted to have gained an experienced specialist in the field of engineering insurance with Ralph Oliver Schmidt. NFU MUTUAL
NFU Mutual has announced the appointment of Rachel Kelsall as Customer Services Director.
Rachel Kelsall, currently Head of Underwriting and Claims, will become the new Customer Services Director, taking over from Steve Bower, who retires at the end of March next year. Subject to regulatory approval, Rachel will take up the position of Customer Services Director and join NFU Mutual’s Board of Directors. Rachel started her career with NFU Mutual in 1989 after working with Lloyds Bank. During her time with the UK’s leading rural insurer Rachel has held a variety of roles spanning customer services, claims, finance and underwriting.

INTER SCIENTIFIC
Inter Scientific has appointed Tim Liddicoat as its new managing director.
The Liverpool-based regulatory compliance firm works with businesses on a global scale, with offices in USA and in Europe. Liddicoat takes the helm for leadership and management, as he aims to drive growth targets to establish Inter Scientific as the world’s leading compliance firm in the healthcare, vape, cosmetic and food industries.
He brings 27 years’ experience in pharmaceutical, CRO, scientific services and vape industries, and will be instrumental in building on the company’s recent successes as well as ensuring client satisfaction in the Tobacco Product Directive and PMTA regulatory frameworks.
DESCARTES
Louis Bollaert joins Descartes Underwriting as Chief Revenue Officer and will oversee expanding Descartes’ corporate offering to climate-exposed markets globally. With significant investment into R&D, and a growing team of 80+ PhDs, underwriting experts, and data scientists, the firm’s ability to model and price climate and emerging exposures leads the industry. As Descartes reaches advanced stages of new product development, Louis will also manage the roll-out of expanded product lines and customer segments.
He brings over 20 years of brokerage, risk management and insurance industry experience, most recently as the Head of Trade Credit, Political risk, Surety and M&A Solutions at Aon in France. Prior to that, Louis worked at Euler Hermes France as Distribution and Partnerships Director. He started his career as an internal auditor and project manager at Bouygues Telecom, as well as a strategic consultant for an independent firm. He holds a degree in Strategy from HEC Paris.
CONSILIUM
Consilium, the international (re)insurance broker, part of The Aventum Group, has announced that it has created a dedicated in-house claims team and has appointed Nicola Chapman to Head of Claims.
Nicola joins Consilium from independent wholesale broker TUE (previously the Underwriting Exchange). She has nearly 20 years’ claims experience working for independent brokers. Nicola will be responsible for devising and driving a market leading claims advocacy proposition, supported by Duncan Childs, Partner at Consilium, and a team of in-house claims handlers dedicated to Consilium’s clients and brokers. Duncan Childs is a qualified lawyer with nearly 20 years’ experience as a practicing lawyer specialising in insurance contract law. He joined Consilium earlier this year from Ed Broking where he was responsible for developing market leading insurance contracts and claims advocacy services.
The appointment also comes just months after James Baird’s appointment to Consilium as CEO and Managing Partner of the global (re)insurance broker.
WORLD TRAVEL PROTECTION

At World Travel Protection, Dr Banks will oversee a team of nurses and doctors, who handle all medical assistance cases, including emergency medical evacuations. He and his team are there to support clients when something medical goes wrong overseas. He is a triple accredited Consultant in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine and has extensive experience in Retrieval and Transfer Medicine throughout the world. Dr Banks will continue to also work as an NHS Consultant and for a number of Air Ambulance charities as a Pre-Hospital Emergency Physician.

LIBERTY MUTUAL GLOBAL RISK
Liberty Mutual Insurance’s Global Risk Solutions division (GRS) has announced the appointment of Rachel Conran as Chief Underwriting Officer, Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), effective January 1, 2023. LSM is the international commercial, specialty and reinsurance business of Liberty Mutual.
Conran will report to Matthew Moore, President, GRS Office of Underwriting, and Phil Hobbs, President and Managing Director of LSM. She will be based in Cologne, Germany and will be responsible for underwriting performance across LSM.
“Rachel’s proven specialty underwriting and leadership skills, together with her track record of delivering impressive underwriting performance, made her the ideal candidate for the role,” said Hobbs. “Her expertise, passion and collaboration will add value to clients and brokers.”

DUFRAIN
Dufrain, one of the UK’s leading data analytics consultancies, today announces it has appointed Alex Meakin as its first ever Chief Financial Officer.
Meakin brings invaluable insight and experience to the role. Having begun his career as a design and software engineer before qualifying as a chartered accountant with PwC, he brings over 20 years’ worth of experience in finance across a range of sectors.
He joins Dufrain from Brookson Group, a Private Equity backed, tech enabled services business where, as CFO, he was responsible for M&A, debt financing, financial planning and analysis and due diligence. He also successfully led the company through a sale to People 2.0 in May this year and has also previously held senior finance roles at Thomas Cook, Manchester Airport and Barclays.
