SOMPO

Sompo International, a provider of commercial and consumer Property and Casualty (re)insurance, has announced the appointment of Jamie Cañellas as Country Manager of its insurance operations in Spain and Portugal. With over 30 years of industry experience, Mr. Cañellas joined Sompo International in 2018 and most recently held the role of Head of Distribution for Europe. He is based in Barcelona and reports to Ralph Brand, President Continental Europe Insurance.

SWISS RE

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has appointed Peter Mondi as Head Distribution Management North America, effective April 11, 2023.

In this new role, he will lead a team responsible for the broker engagement & strategy for the United States and Canada. Based in Chicago, IL, Mondi will report to Allen Kwan, Head of Customer & Distribution North America.

MINSTER LAW

Jane Brodie has been appointed People Director at Minster Law. Brodie formally joined the business in February this year. Jane reports to Shirley Woolham, Minster Law CEO.

GALLAGHER 

Gallagher has appointed Ralph Sherbahn as Head of Financial Lines for Asia. Ralph brings over 30 years insurance experience in both broking and underwriting. Most recently Ralph was at Zurich, overseeing its financial lines underwriting, prior to which he held senior roles at The Hartford, XL Group and Marsh. Ralph’s global experience spans Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Switzerland, France, Spain and the US.In his new role, Ralph is responsible for overseeing Gallagher’s financial lines operations in Asia with existing capabilities in Singapore and Hong Kong. As the firm expands further in Asia, Ralph will manage its financial lines offering in new territories when they go live. His team will advise on products including cyber, management liability, financial institutions, warranty & indemnity and other types of IPO/M&A related insurance. He will be based in Hong Kong and will report to CEO of North Asia, Thomas Wang.

LOCKTON

Lockton has appointed Peter Chesterfield as Senior Vice President in the Global Real Estate & Construction (GREAC) team. Peter begins his new role with immediate effect, reporting to David Hayhow, Head of Lockton’s Global Construction Practice.

In this role, Peter will be tasked with maintaining and accelerating the growth of the Lockton GREAC practice, focussing on the division’s construction projects across international markets. He joins a successful and expanding Global Construction Practice, which has experienced 30% revenue growth in the last 12 months.

Peter joins from Gallagher, where, as Executive Partner, he was responsible for devising and executing the strategy for new business, and sales initiatives for key accounts across Gallagher’s construction division. He brings over a decade years of experience in the delivery of business development, sales and strategic account management across construction classes, both in London and Australia, to his new role. He previously held senior roles at JLT and Marsh Specialty.

LONMAR

Lonmar, part of Brown & Brown-owned Global risk Partners (GRP), has appointed Nick Muir head of UK & Ireland property. Nick joins Lonmar from Lockton and will report to Managing Director, Karen Allen.

Karen Allen said that Nick’s responsibility will be oversight of and growth in Lonmar’s property portfolio.

AON

Aon plc (NYSE: AON), has announced that Sarah E. Smith, a former member of the Management Committee of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., has been appointed to its Board of Directors, effective April 15, 2023.

ALLIANZ COMMERCIAL

Allianz Commercial has promoted Mark Ashwood as head of property insurance and Olivia Baker (pictured) as head of motor trade insurance.

Mark and Olivia will be responsible for setting the strategy, direction, pricing and underwriting appetite for Allianz’s commercial property and motor trade accounts respectively, as well as maintaining and developing products and customer propositions. Mark has had an extensive career at Allianz since joining the company in 1987. He worked in a number of branches in commercial underwriting roles, before becoming motor trade manager and most recently, motor trade underwriting account manager.

Olivia joined the Allianz graduate programme in 2010 and has since held several underwriting roles with a particular focus on account management and portfolio steering. This included leading the motor trade account in the Woking branch and her most recent role as manager within the motor trade head office account team.

ROKSTONE

Rokstone, the International Speciality (Re)Insurance MGA, part of the Aventum Group, has launched a Credit & Surety Treaty division.  Rokstone has appointed Luis Antonio Ibáñez as the Portfolio Manager to lead the division, based in Madrid.

The division has secured A rated capacity from BMI and Malaysian Re, initially with a maximum USD 2.75m line. Rokstone is targeting USD 15m GWP for Credit & Surety by the end of 2023, and as of April has already signed, USD 11m GWP.

Luis Antonio Ibáñez has more than 30 years’ experience in Credit & Surety.  He joins Rokstone from Active Re where he was Global Chief Operating Officer and introduced its Treaty book and developed the surety and credit class, growing it successfully internationally across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.  Prior to that, he spent 27 years with CESCE, the Spanish Export Credit Agency (ECA) a specialist in trade credit insurance and surety in parts of Europe and Latin America. He held a number of roles at CESCE, latterly as its Global Chief Operating Officer.

FPSB

Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB) is pleased to announce new leadership positions to help drive forward the organization’s mission to establish, uphold and promote worldwide professional standards in financial planning, with CFP certification its global symbol of excellence.

On 1 April 2023, FPSB Board Member Ana Cláudia Akie Utumi, CFP, ascended to the role of chairperson of the FPSB Board for a two-year term, succeeding Garry Muriwai.

In this leadership role, Utumi leads the global standards-setting body for the financial planning profession and owner of the international CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification program.

Utumi is the founding partner of Utumi Advogados in Brazil and has more than 30 years of experience in tax. In addition to heading up her own tax specialty legal practice, Utumi is Professor of Tax Law at the University IBDT in São Paulo, guest lecturer at the University of Zurich, a member of the practice council of the NYU School of Law International Tax Program and member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) Supervisory Board. She was also a founding board member of Planejar, FPSB’s Affiliate organization in Brazil.
