Job Moves and Senior Hires Round Up 30.10.2023

The latest industry job moves and senior level appointments;

SOMPO

Sompo International announces that Pei Ru Chiew has joined the company and will lead Crisis Management, Commercial P&C Insurance in Asia Pacific (APAC). She will be based in Singapore and report to Paul O’Neill, President of Commercial Lines, Insurance, APAC.

Ms. Chiew brings extensive speciality knowledge and experience that includes carrier and broker positions. Most recently she was with AXA XL’s Singapore team as a Senior Underwriter of War, Terrorism and Political Violence. Previous to that, she was with JLT Specialty as a Credit, Political and Security Risk broker and manager, and Marsh Asia as a Terrorism and Political Violence broker.

Sompo International has also announced two appointments for its UK Commercial P&C Insurance business unit, Jon Pope (below) as Head of Middle Market Insurance, London region, and Toby Harris as Head of Technology, Middle Market Insurance. Both will report into Joe Brown, Middle Market & Small Business Underwriting Leader, UK.

AND-E UK

AND-E UK has appointed Gemma Robinson, as its People and Culture Director. Supporting nearly 600 employees, Gemma has been promoted from her previous role as Head of People and Engagement and aims to build on the strong employee engagement that saw AND-E UK named Best Employer in the Large Insurer category in insurance industry awards last month.

With operations in London, Newcastle and Epsom, AND-E UK delivers insurance services both direct to consumers and businesses and on behalf of strategic partners, with a vision ‘To lead the way in connected mobility protection’.  It has ambitious growth plans and building and sustaining a strong people culture is critical to its success.

Gemma has been in People roles for 23 years.  She joined AND-E in 2020.  Prior to that she held a number of HR lead roles over 8 years at Balfour Beatty and other HR positions for 15 years before that.

QBE GERMANY

QBE Germany has strengthened its Marine team in Hamburg with the appointments of Philip Specht as Senior Underwriter and Lars Habersaat as Underwriter. The commercial insurer is thus setting the course for the expansion of its Marine and Art & Specie product range into the German market.

Philip Specht brings more than 25 years of experience and industry expertise to his new position. A qualified insurance specialist with a focus on cargo and marine liability, he has held various management roles during his career. He was Managing Director at Aon Versicherungsagentur Deutschland and head of the marine insurance division at Aon Japan Group. Most recently, he worked as a senior underwriter for transport insurance at KA Köln.Assekuranz.

Prior to joining QBE in July, Lars Habersaat worked as a marine underwriter at R+V subsidiary Kravag-Logistic Versicherungs-AG and gained valuable industry expertise in the maritime sector as an underwriting assistant at Protection & Indemnity (P&I) insurer Thomas Miller Specialty in London. Lars studied shipping management as well as insurance law.

PRO GLOBAL

Pro Global (“Pro”), the leading trusted advisor for the specialist insurance sector, announces the appointment of two new Senior Claims Technicians within its fast-growing specialist Claims team.

Lutty Choudhury is joining Pro from Keoghs LLP where she was a solicitor for 12 years focusing on insurance litigation, acting for a number of blue chip clients and self-insureds in defending long-tail industrial disease claims as well as stress, bullying and harassment, carbon-monoxide poisoning, environmental pollution and housing disrepair claims. Prior to Keoghs, Lutty had been a solicitor with Haliwells LLP and Hill Dickinson LLP, and she started her career as a Claims handler with Iron Trades Management Services.

Tanya Cross joins Pro from Clyde & Co where she was until recently a Partner. Prior to this, she had been a Partner with Berrymans Lace Mawer for over 28 years undertaking defendant insurance litigation for major insurers and corporates, specialising in occupational disease litigation. Before that, Tanya was a Solicitor with Silverbeck Rymer having started her career with Hill Dickinson.

MARSH SPECIALTY CYBER

Marsh has announced the launch of a new Marsh Specialty global cyber practice that integrates all of Marsh’s cyber capabilities across insurance, risk intelligence, incident management, and cybersecurity around the world.

The practice, which will formally launch of January 1, 2024, will be led by Tom Reagan, currently Cyber Practice Leader, US and Canada, Marsh Specialty. As Global Specialty Head of Cyber, Marsh Specialty, Mr. Reagan will be responsible for delivering industry-leading transactional and advisory services that enable clients around the world to better identify, measure, and manage their cyber risks. He will continue to be based in New York.

Meredith Schnur, currently Cyber Brokerage Leader, US and Canada, will assume leadership of Marsh Specialty’s US and Canada Cyber Practice, succeeding Mr. Reagan on January 1. She will continue to be based in New York.

Also on January 1, Greg Eskins, currently Cyber Product Leader, US and Canada, will assume leadership of a new Global Cyber Insurance Center that will oversee the development and delivery of innovative cyber insurance solutions that address current and emerging risk issues around the world. Mr. Eskins will be based in Miami. Brian Warszona, who most recently served as Deputy UK Cyber Practice Leader, will assume leadership of a new Global Cyber Digital Center that will oversee the development and deployment of innovative digital delivery tools and resources for clients. Mr. Warszona is relocating to Chicago from London.

SOCIETY OF MORTGAGE PROFESSIONALS

The Society of Mortgage Professionals (SMP) has announced Amanda Bryden, head of Halifax Intermediaries and Scottish Widows Bank, Lloyds Banking Group, as its newest board member.

Amanda is a great advocate of the intermediary market, having built a career in the mortgage industry that spans more than 26 years. Her career in the sector started as a mortgage broker, and she has since filled a variety of senior roles across several of the country’s biggest mortgage lenders. Amanda brings the insight to support mortgage brokers in delivering excellent customer outcomes, and the depth of knowledge to support meaningful, mutually beneficial partnerships between lenders and brokers.
