COMPRE
Compre, the Bermuda-domiciled international legacy group, announces the appointment of LoriAnn Lowery-Biggers and Jonathan Reiss as independent non-executive directors of its holding company in Bermuda, subject to regulatory approval.
Lowery-Biggers has more than 25 years of experience in the global finance and insurance industries, most notably as president of Lloyd’s of London, North America. Additionally, she has held various executive roles at The Navigators Group, serving as president of its commercial insurance company, president of field operations and chief marketing officer. Lowery-Biggers is also lead independent director of Brown & Riding Insurance Group, a non-executive director of BMS Investment Holding Company and BMS Re, and Copper Point Mutual Holding Company.
Reiss has more than 30 years of insurance industry experience and is currently managing director of Strategic Risk Solutions Bermuda, where he is responsible for re/insurance business development. Reiss joined SRS from Hamilton Insurance Group where he served most recently as president of strategic partnerships, having joined the company as chief financial officer in 2013. Prior to this, he was a partner at EY, leading its Bermuda, Bahamas and Cayman insurance practices.
LYCETTS

Ian Martin has been appointed Chair at leading insurance broker and independent financial adviser, Lycetts. In his non-executive role, he will help to further enhance corporate governance, manage regulatory risk, and support with strategic planning for the business. Ian, who lives in Kent, boasts an enviable career history and is highly experienced within the insurance sector.
From 2012 to 2014 he was CEO of HSBC Insurance UK, Ireland and Malta. He then went on to spend four years as CEO of HSBC Insurance Singapore and a director of HSBC Asia Insurance Holdings.
Between 2018 and 2020 he worked in the office of the global head of insurance, HSBC group, as chief of staff. He has since been involved in the education, charity and not-for-profit sector. He is currently Chair of three charities and a director of two not-for-profit organisations.
PPL

Placing Platform Limited is pleased to announce that Mark Griffith has been appointed to take on the new role of Chief Information Officer and will join the business in January 2024.
Mark will report to Joe Gordon, PPL CEO, and will assume overall responsibility for PPL’s project delivery as the company looks to accelerate its digital strategy, working with in-house teams and partners to execute this. Mark will also be accountable for PPL’s technology platforms, both in the selection of technologies and in their management.
Mark joins PPL from Ebix Europe, where he held the role of Delivery Director. Prior to working at Ebix, Mark spent 25 years working in diverse change and technology leadership roles in the London insurance market and in other insurance and financial services firms.
SIGMA CONNECTED

Business outsourcing provider Sigma Connected has appointed experienced insurance specialist Susan Young as Director of Insurance Services as part of its ambition to grow in the sector. In a newly created Group-wide role, Susan will use her insurance expertise to build relations with businesses across the industry, identifying new opportunities and leading the onboarding process of new clients.
Reporting into Ben Jones, Sigma Connected Group’s Chief Commercial Officer, Susan has joined the company from Gallagher Insurance where she spent 28 years in a variety of senior positions, including 18 years at Giles Insurance ahead of its acquisition by Gallagher in 2013.
Ben Jones said: “It’s vital we have first-class and experienced experts in every sector we work in and Susan commands enormous respect across the insurance industry.
CONSUMER INTELLIGENCE

FIRST EAGLE

First Eagle Investments (“First Eagle”) has announced the hiring of Katie Cowan as Head of Insurance Client Solutions. In this newly created role, Cowan leads First Eagle’s efforts in the insurance channel, partnering closely with the firm’s investment teams and other areas of the organization to deliver strategic solutions customized to the unique needs of these investors. She joined First Eagle on November 3, 2023, and reports to President and Chief Executive Officer Mehdi Mahmud.
“First Eagle’s investment capabilities are especially relevant for the evolving needs of insurance companies, particularly within alternative credit,” said Mahmud. “We have a terrific history of serving sophisticated insurance clients with cutting-edge solutions, and I’m thrilled to have an experienced professional of Katie’s caliber leading our efforts in this space.”
Cowan joined First Eagle from Guggenheim Investments, where she spent over 10 years managing the firm’s third-party insurance client relationships. Previously, Cowan worked in the global markets division of Bank of America Merrill Lynch and in leveraged finance at The Royal Bank of Scotland. She earned a BS in business administration from Georgetown University.
BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY SI
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) recently announced that it has promoted Donagh Regan to Head of Casualty in Ireland.
“Since joining BHSI in 2021, Donagh has been instrumental in building our solutions-focused casualty portfolio in Ireland,” said Louise Kidd, Country Manager, Ireland, BHSI. “His deep underwriting knowledge, casualty risk expertise and excellent character make him exceptionally well suited to lead our casualty business into the future.”
Donagh has more than 20 years of industry experience spanning underwriting, claims and risk engineering. He was previously Senior Casualty Underwriter at BHSI. In his new role, he continues to be based in Dublin.
TOKIO MARINE
Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) is pursuing further growth in the UK regional Professional Risks market with three underwriting appointments and investment in new premises in Manchester.
Jazz Parkash has been appointed as Development Underwriter in the Birmingham branch, having spent 18 years in the broking sector with Lockton, Giles Insurance Brokers and latterly Wesleyan, where she was Professional Indemnity Broking Manager.
Joining her in the Birmingham team is Rhian Ottey who has been appointed Underwriting Assistant to the Professional Risks team. Rhian, who holds a law degree from Staffordshire University, has joined from Arc Legal and will assist underwriters across a range of professional risk products and services.
In Manchester, Scott McDermott has joined as a Development Underwriter for the region. Prior to joining, Scott spent nearly five years at Horwich Farrelly, working in both claimant and defendant civil litigation, before moving to BLM in 2017. In 2019, he made the move into the Professional Indemnity insurance market with Towergate Insurance where he specialised in Design and Construct risks.

To accommodate the growing team in Manchester, TMHCCI has moved from serviced offices in the city to a larger, permanent premises on the 6th floor of Colwyn Chambers (above) at 19 York Street, a Grade II listed building nestled in the heart of the Northern Quarter.
The new premises boast state of the art facilities, enhanced trading capability and the capacity to accommodate future growth expected in the division. From a team of just two in 2016, the new office will serve an organisation of 12 highly experienced and specialist underwriters, servicing brokers and clients across the region. This growth trajectory is expected to continue.
COALITION

Coalition, recently announced the appointment of Mr. Oliver Bäte, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz SE, to the company’s Board of Directors.

As a longstanding executive at the Allianz Group, Oliver Bäte began serving as CEO of Allianz SE in 2015, a position preceded by serving as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to this, he served in a number of leadership positions at McKinsey & Company, including Director of the firm’s European insurance and asset management practice.
