Job Moves and Senior Appointments 12.02.2024

Time once again for those job moves and industry appointments, so let’s get into it.

ABI BOARD

The CEO of Scottish Widows / CEO of Insurance, Pensions and Investments of Lloyds Banking Group, Chirantan (Chira) Barua has joined the Board of the ABI. Meanwhile two committees welcome new chairs.

Chira joined Lloyds in May last year having led on global strategy at HSBC for three years. He takes up his role on the board from today and will also feature as guest speaker at the ABI’s annual conference later this month, discussing Mansion House reforms.

The ABI Board provides the strategic direction to the Association’s work, chaired by Baroness Nicky Morgan. As Chira joins, the ABI thanks Craig Thornton, who leaves the Board and the association’s General Insurance Committee after nearly four years.

LONMAR

Lonmar Global Risks, part of Bridge Specialty Group, Brown & Brown’s international wholesale broking business, has appointed Lewis Cursley as Business Development Manager. Cursley, who was previously at Roots Finance Group, is an experienced business development professional. He will report to Rob O’Connor, Director of Business development. He began his new role at the end of December.

Rob O’Connor said: “Lewis is based in Lancashire and will help us develop and nurture broker relationships in the North and Midlands. He’s a highly capable BD specialist with good connections in the region and I’m confident he’ll make a positive difference, building on our existing relationships and further developing our market presence.”

WOODGATE AND CLARK

Woodgate & Clark, the specialist loss adjuster has appointed Nia Wyn Roberts, Cert CII, as Risk and Compliance Manager, reporting to James Eveling, Managing Director. Roberts joins Woodgate & Clark from a European insurance business, and brings nearly a decade of sector experience, latterly in risk management, audit and compliance. As a qualified underwriter and expert in fraud prevention, Nia brings a unique combination of skills to the role.

As Risk and Compliance Manager, Roberts will have overall responsibility for Health and Safety compliance across the business. Vitally, this will include supporting the safety of Woodgate & Clark’s highly skilled team of loss adjusters out on site, often in risky conditions.

Roberts’ responsibilities will also include conducting regular reviews of the risks facing the business, assessing future ventures, and keeping abreast of regulatory developments as well as evolving best practices in compliance control.

IGNITE SPECIALTY

 Ignite Specialty Risk, a leading provider of litigation risk insurance, announced today the US launch of its Litigation Capital Protection Insurance offering and the appointment of litigation finance expert and former litigator, Nicole Silver as Lead Underwriter and Head of US Operations. 

Ignite’s Litigation Capital Protection Insurance enables litigation funders and law firms to deploy capital across a portfolio of litigation assets with the assurance that their underlying investment will be protected even if the portfolio does not perform as expected. It is backed by a panel of AM Best A- (Excellent) rated capacity. 

Ignite was founded in the UK in 2022 by a team with deep experience in both litigation funding and insurance. Following the company’s London market success offering the most extensive range of litigation insurance products among UK providers, Ignite is now bringing its Litigation Capital Protection Insurance product to the US market.

MARSH

Marsh has announced the appointment of Shannan Fort as International Cyber Product Leader, Marsh Specialty. Effective 1 April, Ms. Fort will be based in London and report to Gregory Eskins, Global Cyber Insurance Center Leader, and Kelly Butler, UK Cyber Leader, Marsh Specialty.

As part of the newly created Global Cyber Insurance Center which launched on January 1, Ms. Fort will focus on product innovation and commercialisation and services that support clients in developing robust risk management and resilience strategies that respond to existing and emerging cyber threats. She will work closely with Marsh McLennan’s cyber risk experts to provide technical product support and training to clients globally.

Ms. Fort will bring over 16 years’ international experience to the role and will join from McGill and Partners, where she has served as a Partner – Financial Lines, Cyber, since November 2020. Previously, Ms. Fort worked for Aon for 13 years in various leadership roles in New York and London, including Cyber Product Development Leader in Aon’s Global Broking Centre.

MARSH

Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk advisor and a business of Marsh McLennan, has also announced the appointment of Lorraine Stack as Risk Management Leader, Europe, effective immediately. Ms. Stack is based in Dublin and reports to Christos Adamantiadis, CEO, and Carolina Klint, Chief Commercial Officer, Marsh McLennan Europe.

Marsh also announced that Rob Geraghty has succeeded Ms. Stack as International Consulting and Sales Leader, Marsh Captive Solutions and that Nick Gale has been promoted to Dublin and Isle of Man Captives Operations Leader, both effectively immediately. Mr. Geraghty is based in London and Mr. Gale is based on the Isle of Man; both report to Will Thomas-Ferrand, International Captive Practice Leader, Marsh.   

TOKIO MARINE HCC

Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI), a member of the Tokio Marine HCC group of companies, has today announced the appointment of Nicola Hannay as Head of Power Generation in its London-based energy practice. She takes up her new role with immediate effect and reports to Ben Kinder, Chief Underwriting Officer – Marine, Energy and Renewables.

Nicola joins from SCOR, where she served, most recently, as Global Head of Power in SCOR’s Business Solutions division. She brings nearly three decades of experience to her new role and has built and led profitable power portfolios at a series of businesses including Axa XL and AIG. This strategic appointment will see TMHCCI further expand its comprehensive energy offering – covering thermal power plants, hydroelectric, solar power, geothermal, alternative power generation and mixed technology portfolios.

RSA

RSA Insurance announces the appointment of Sonya Bryson as Commercial Lines Managing Director, effective from 01 May 2024 and subject to regulatory approval.

Reporting to Ken Norgrove, CEO UK & International, Sonya will have full responsibility for the strategy, P&L and performance of RSA’s commercial lines business in the UK, (including NIG & FarmWeb). Sonya joins RSA from Direct Line Group where she was Commercial Managing Director and Managing Director NIG. Sonya has held a number of senior leadership roles, having always worked within the commercial insurance market.

Ken Norgrove, Chief Executive Officer commented: “This is a transformational year for RSA as we complete the integration of NIG which will take us to number three in the market. We have ambitious plans, taking the strengths of RSA, NIG & FarmWeb to create a specialist Commercial Lines business that’s market leading for broker service, products and pricing.”

MCGILL AND PARTNERS

McGill and Partners, the global specialty (re)insurance broker, has appointed Josef Heiler as a Partner in the Facultative Reinsurance team in Hannover, Germany.

Josef, an industrial engineer by background, joins McGill and Partners from Marsh where for the last 15 years he was responsible for large global clients across all lines, most recently as a Client Director and previously as Head of Global Risk Management for Marsh GmbH. Prior to Marsh, Josef worked as a property underwriter at AIG, working in Frankfurt and New York.

In his new role Josef will be working with the McGill and Partners facultative colleagues globally, as well as the firm’s partners and clients in the region, focusing on third party reinsurance, in-house brokers and captives in EMEA. He has multi-line experience and a subsequent breadth of knowledge that will further enhance the team’s specialist reinsurance broking proposition in the region. 

CANOPIUS GROUP

Canopius Group, a leading global specialty (re)insurer, announces the appointment of Valentina Minetti as Head of Medical Professional Liability (MPL). She takes up the role with immediate effect.

Valentina brings nearly three decades of healthcare lines and actuarial experience to her new role. She joins from Coverys Syndicate 1975, where she served as Active Underwriter. Prior to this, she led Beazley’s US hospitals portfolio. She began her career as an actuary, first at RSA and later at GE Financial and Groupama. Valentina holds a master’s degree in mathematics and is an affiliate member of the Institute of Actuaries. Valentina’s appointment accelerates the growth of Canopius’ new medical professional liability division, following the appointments of Ashley Moulton as Healthcare Underwriter and Alex Tindall as Underwriting Analyst to the team last year.

HDI GLOBAL SE

HDI Global SE (HDI) has appointed David Vigier as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), effective 19 January 2024. Vigier will report directly to Jean-Marie Haquette, Managing Director HDI Global France. In addition to this role, Vigier will gradually take over from Etienne de Varax the role as Head for Captives.

Vigier already joined HDI Global in September 2023. He can look back on more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry. He joined HDI from Erget Group after previously holding leading roles among others at Sanlam Pan Africa, Europcar Mobility Group and AIG.

“After a year of strong growth in profitability in 2023 in France, we at HDI Global are reinforcing our client excellence over the next few years. I am delighted that David Vigier is with us, as he combines expertise in sales, distribution, and captive services. Together with his team, he will ensure that we fulfil the high expectations our clients and broker partners have with regard to our services and innovative insurance solutions, whether traditional or alternative offerings”, said Haquette on the appointment.

GENERALI CORPORATE AND COMMERCIAL

Generali Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) announces the appointment of Carlos Gomez as the new Head of Insurance, effective from 30th January 2024. Currently serving as the Head of GC&C Mediterranean & Latin America, Gomez will also continue in this role ad interim.

In his new role, Gomez will lead and oversee GC&C activities related to the entire insurance process. He will foster corporate portfolio management, optimizing efficiency in the interdependencies between each underwriting line of business, pricing, loss prevention, and claims processes.

Commenting on the appointment, Christian Kanu, GC&C CEO, stated: “I am truly pleased that Carlos has accepted this global role, and I am delighted to witness how we can leverage our internal talent. Over the years, Carlos has excelled in leading the Mediterranean & Latin America region. I am convinced that his extensive experience gained in these key markets will be invaluable in guiding and further enhancing this strategic function and in serving our clients at the highest level.”

CFC

 CFC has announced that Nichola Archibald has joined the business as Interim Chief People Officer.

 “We have big plans to build on CFC’s significant track record of success, and as we take the next steps forward on our journey it is more important than ever that we invest even more in our people,” said CFC Group CEO, Louise O’Shea. “This will involve introducing new policies and procedures to create an environment in which our people can thrive and ensuring our HR team have the leadership they need to help drive these new initiatives through the business.

Archibald has over 25 years’ experience across a broad range of industry sectors including insurance holding senior HR positions at Inter Hannover Plc and Hannover Re, RSA and Aviva. She has been providing HR consulting and executive coaching services to a variety of businesses for over a decade.

COALITION

 Coalition, the world’s first Active Insurance provider designed to prevent digital risk before it strikes, today announced it has appointed Laura Stewart as its first UK claims leader.
Stewart joins Coalition as Claims Counsel after a career in the legal and cyber sectors. Her experience includes roles at DAC Beachcroft, Ernst & Young, and, most recently, the US law firm Morrison Foerster, where she helped clients with data protection and privacy, cyber incidents, negotiation, and security training. During her career, Laura has supported clients ranging from small UK businesses to large international organisations with various incidents, including ransomware, financial fraud, business email compromise, and insider threats. Laura also has experience dealing with insurance claims and coverage issues.
